1 in 4 teenage girls has an STD

It is worse than that. I know someone who's 12 year old daughter asked her dad about condoms. So he told her about them. Her teacher found out and reported the family to CPS and the girl was taken from her home until everyone went through screening and counseling to check for sexual abuse. At the end it was 'sorry...you can have your kid back now...our bad'.

That's sad.
What happened to the teacher?

Steve

African-Americans aren't what you'd call 'left-wingers'. They just know that the Republicans have and will screw them over more than the Democrats. ;)

^^What's the point of this statement? I merely state the facts of what was said in the article. I didn't write it. Some expert who did some statistical analysis did. Are you gonna get all Jesse Jackson on me? "All Teenage girls should have an equal opportunity to contract an STD!!!" :rofl

Jeez! That is HORRIBLE.

Yeah...now for the definition of irony... That same girl had to take a class in school the previous year (at 11!!!) to tell her that gay and lesbian lifestyles are OK and to use abstinence or condoms to prevent STD's. So it's ok to teach young kids about things as along as it is from someone with an agenda and not the family? :confused

Now imagine if she had not had that class...would she even have come home with more questions? sheesh.

I remember 'sex ed' but it was in Jr. High...not Elementary school!

I personally believe that US Americans should learn how to put a condom on.

FTW

the funny thing about those stats is that not a lot of men get tested eventho they say they do and men have no symptoms of HPV what so ever they just carry it. Plus not a lot of people do blood tests and thats how u determine if u have any STD's like HPV or herpes..........

It is a result of an overall lack of education.

I agree!
As a culture, we need to learn to treat sex as a natural, yet potentially dangerous activity, with risks that each person can learn to manage for themselves.

If we can be trusted to ride motorcycles and shoot guns, surely we can manage our own fricking genitalia, eh?

Wear your gear!:p

Nothing. They are obligated to report things where they think abuse is going on so can't really blame her. They seem to have been tasked with monitoring our children for us.

My point was self-evident and in response to an earlier post.

You hilited one part of the article by posting it in here. Regardless to whether or not you commented on it, your inclusion of that was a statement in and of itself. I was just asking why you hilited that.

Kids are becoming sexually active sooner than ever before. Elementary school is not at all too soon if it is approached correctly.

I'm not surprised by this story. CPS can sometimes be more harsh on innocent and decent parents but can totally get played by people who are not good parents but know how to 'work the system'.

I have very little respect for CPS as a whole because they have some rotten offices and workers but allow them to remain rotten. :x

I would rather have band class back (it was replaced by sex ed)! oh wait...'one time at band camp'...never mind :laughing

First of, he was speaking tongue-in-cheek.

Second, most African-Americans aren't what you'd call 'left-wingers'. They just know that the Republicans have and will screw them over more than the Democrats. ;)

I knew what I was doing when I generalized blacks as left-wingers. I was trading shots because of the statement made about (the implied) Republicans being right-wingers.

Since you brought it up, why are most blacks Democrats? What specifically has the Republican party done to screw over blacks and what specifically has the Democrat party done to help blacks? I want to know if it (blacks not voting Republican) is based on perception or based on facts. I'll take your answer off the air thank you. :)

The original Ku Klux Klan was created by six educated, middle-class Confederate veterans from Pulaski, Tennessee, after the end of the American Civil War on December 24, 1865. The name was constructed by combining the Greek "kyklos" (κυκλος,circle) with "clan

Some blacks at the time believed the Ku Klux Klan night riders were the ghosts of dead Confederates.

The Ku Klux Klan soon spread into nearly every southern state, launching a "reign of terror" against Republican leaders both black and white. Those assassinated during the campaign included Arkansas Congressman James M. Hinds, three members of the South Carolina legislature, and several men who had served in constitutional conventions."

In an 1867 meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, an effort was made to create a hierarchical organization with local chapters reporting to county leaders, counties reporting to districts, districts reporting to states, and states reporting to a national headquarters. The proposals, in a document called the "Prescript," were written by former Confederate brigadier general George Gordon. The Prescript included inspirational language about the goals of the Klan along with a list of questions to be asked of applicants for membership, which confirmed the focus on resisting Reconstruction and the Republican Party.

So you're claiming that what happened 140 years ago with KKK proves that Republicans actually treat blacks better than Democrats? :laughing

No, I'm saying Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell think your broad sweeping generalizations based on party bias are a significant portion of what's wrong with politics in America today.

Maybe you can set the record straight Brett. I really am curious to see examples of Republican legislation that has screwed the blacks and equally curious to see Democratic legislation that has favored blacks. I think any Democrat example you use will be either favoritism in the form of handouts or some kind of reverse discrimination affirmative action legislation. Any example you cite where the Republicans have screwed the blacks will most likely be an elimination of some handout program or elimination of some reverse discrimination program.
