OPD says loud pipes DO save lives!

hy·poc·ri·sy
n. pl. hy·poc·ri·sies

1. The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness

:rolleyes

Sure its kosher on a Harley but if you have a pipe on your jap bike you'll get a ton of flack even if your Yosh or Akro pipe sounds a billion times better.

Harley's should be categorized under "Offensive noise" the cop near my old place running radar would tear off after people railing on that piece of shit all afternoon while making tons of noise. IMO more of a disturbance then someone going 5 over..

Methinks the real reasons have little to do with safety......

Get off their backs, they conducted an extensive study on this. :x

So last year the department launched a $1,200 study in conjunction with the city's risk management division to determine whether A) the louder motorcycles contributed to officers' safety, B) were detrimental to their hearing, and C) complied with noise standards.

See thats the difference... exhaust on anything but a hardley sounds good. Fucking waste of $15,000. Im glad i dont live in oakland.

i thoguht loud clutches saved lives?

Saw that frickin' sh*t this mornin' on t.v. "safety", is gettin' them damn whistle tipped, DUB'd, trunk splat'n, primered out gas mashers off the city streets IMO. I live in the O.

$1,200 for study? :wtf

Well, you get what you pay for...they probably paid somebody at the local Biker Bar to do the study for them. :laughing

I did hear that they used to call their motorcycle cops 'Rolling Thunder'.

i thought loud clutches saved lives?

Oh, they do, they do! But I'm going to see if the OPD will give me $1200 for a really bling vented clutch cover to, you know, study it:rolleyes :laughing

$1200 dollar study? Doesn't that only cover the cost of lunch? For one day?

I heard this story on KGO radio this morning... They cited the motor officer that was struck at an accident scene because a driver didn't "hear" the bike. What?! Why is this an excuse for driving with criminal negligence? So if it was a bicycle, or a kid on a skateboard or a jogger that was run over it would be ok because they're quiet?

I saw a hybrid gas/electric motorcycle the other day in Concord. I guess that will be categorized as a deathtrap while running on batteries.

As long as they don't start hassling other motorcyclists about their pipes. :)twofinger the import car owners though:rofl)

Haven't you ever worked for the Govmint?

It was a working lunch. Between the Corned Beef and dessert, they came up with a solution. :laughing

:laughing

I DO work with the Government... Just the other day there was an 11 o'clock meeting scheduled... The start ran late and so they all decided that we go lunch together first... That lasted about 2 hours and was charged to overhead. When we got back several of the attendees indicated that they had other meetings to go to in the afternoon and so our meeting was postponed for 11 o'clock the next day. :laughing

When I hear about the old TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man" I laugh uncontrollably... If that series was made today it would be called "The Six Million Dollar Feasibility Study" and the first episode would be about the crises over the crippling cost overruns...
