Berryessa Round 2!! 6-8-08

Really though, you guys rip through a lot of the sections through there and are only getting faster and faster everytime out. Honestly I'm scared to hear about something bad happening eventually on one of these "GP" rides. At some point you guys are going to have to slow down and chill, don't let the reason be that something awful happens. I really do hate to even bring it up or be the one to mention it but I've just been sitting on the sidelines watching and cringing at the thought :( I sat in the back of the fast group last time and observed the entire ride, I think there is a major false sense of comfort among the guys in the front. Just because you slow down in certain sections and keep it cool some of the time doesn't mean you need to go full blast the rest of the time.

I didn't know the roads very well but could keep the group insight, it was fun I'll admit but it was too close to actual track speeds to keep going back. A lot of you faster guys are pretty young(not that I'm any older) I'm suprised none of the older OG riders have told you guys anything yet about keeping the speeds down a bit which is disappointing. I see a lot of excitement about draggin knee and going fast on these rides among the faster guys in front. Its good to know some of you go to the track as well, but using Berryessa as a practice ground is asking too much IMO of course

Maybe mixing it up with some new roads and adventures would be refreshing? :)

if its lame you dont have to do...I happen to like Berryessa :x

I like the ride cause we get used to the "track" and get our qualifying times down :twofinger I believe I'm up in the mid B pack now with my lap times :rofl :twofinger But I sandbag it so I stay in the C group :ride

Lets see it people, I dare you to flame this post :thumbup

Dude, didn't you nearly die on one of the GP rides just recently? :thumbdown

Sorry in advance for being a hater, and a damper on the fun but shit, something needs to be said

HAHA, yeah, thats me :wave But seriously, I finish the GP in last place almost consistently Yody, I was being sarcastic :laughing its all good, and I agree with your above post Xagazzillion

I do believe that mixing it up would be wise for the reason stated :thumbup

Yeah, I could tell you were being sarcastic, the scary thing is, is that behind your sarcasm lies some truth. Sometimes people state the truth sarcastically to try and deny the complete honesty behind it. Again, I honestly don't like being a dick about all this, but maybe you guys will read this and think about it?

What about a Skaggs run? We start early enough we can incorporate Skaggs into the Berryessa ride. :teeth

I actually did that a couple of years ago, ended up at Stewart's Pt. on Hwy 1 by Sea Ranch. It's definitely an all-day ride. We should do this before the summer ends.

Yeah that is a good run, only thing I found about it though is the ride back on Highway 1 south is a bitch after riding for so long. As crazy as it sounds all the turns start to get to you. HOWEVER a scheduled all day ride with a nice break before heading down highway 1 sounds really good!

I think about it pretty consistently too, since my accident. But my sarcasm has no truth behind it, please ask anyone that rides with me on the street, I'm not fast, and don't push it. You see, I learned the hard way, almost dieing, to get me to realize that going "that little extra" is NOT worth it. So I'll go to have some fun, but I won't go to improve my "lap" times. :thumbup

I haven't talked extensively with you yet Yody, but we have alot of the same views on this :ride

Cool and the only reason I recognize things like this is because I tend to do the same things, I'm getting my F4I back on the street and am nervous about it because I have a hard time keeping my speed in check as well

EDIT:

We'll in hindsight I think I'm just a hater :laughing I just realized I was hating on Toe when he started getting fast at the track and wanted to get even faster.Maybe I should stop projecting my experiences on others and just let them have fun, shit I don't know :dunno

I'm down, just name the date and time and I'll be there. :ride

Riding in the back of the C group is where I like to be on the Berryessa Ride... No tickets and making it home in one piece. The real trick is to skip gassing up and go right to perry's. Last one there and the first one to eat!!!

that was pretty much bad ass on our part :thumbup :laughing

its true the speeds are getting a little crazy...it seems everytime we go out things get faster and faster, there are quite a few sections of the road where its all triple digit speeds. Im not bragging about it...it just ends up happening
though there is only ONE turn i drag knee at berryessa and it happens to be the slowest turn and the last one :laughing

but in all seriousness...I just need to stay focused on beating Cody at the track instead of the street. :twofinger

I think this is something that is important to bring up. Many of the Berryessa riders, including myself at times, treat it like it's our own backyard. We all should know better, some of us do and ride it within out limits, but don't be like that dick on the black and orange GSXR1000 riding hella fast and like a tool and then saying "I was riding way below my limit." In case you guys forgot, you don't get a second chance at life. Take it from someone who knows!!!

I vote for adventures in the south bay!! :thumbup

the thing about the Berryessa ride for me, its that I never feel im riding over my own skills. Not once during the last 10 or so rides have I had an "oh shit" moment other than flying past a CHP.
But over the limits of the bike (traction or ability to stop in time) and the road, oh yes, without a doubt.
anything could be waiting for me around one of those blind turns, car, person, cyclist, gravel, deer, anyone of those things at triple digit speeds could be the end.

I suppose its my immaturity and lack of common sense that continue to bring me out there every sunday...

Toe do you think if you were to slow it down a bit you wouldn't enjoy the ride as much? I'm just curious because for me I sometimes find when I'm riding in a group it's hard not to be a little competitive.

Anyway I would like to come up with some suggestions as far as ride locations if that's cool. I will do some research and post up here or in future Berryessa ride threads.
