Sierra ride, lots of pics

I grew up hunting, camping, and fishing that area. your pic bring back great memories: first deer, first bear, first trout on a fly rod, last camping trip with my god-father, and the first camping trip with my wife.

NICE! We may have crossed paths as I too was up in the Sierras (left on Thursday, returned on Monday), covering 1100 miles but we had three street bikes so we stayed to the pavement for the most part. I'll post my pics up soon but here is our ride map for a total of five days. We were based out of a house in Twain Harte and loved every minute.

Hot damn it was nice up there. Great pics and write up, we/I need to find waaaaaay more dirt next time.
 
AWESOME! Looks like a GREAT ride...totally jealous! Did you actually camp at Mosquito Lake, or up the road at Alpine Lake? Did you freeze your ass off at night? If not, what kind of sleeping gear you got?

A KLR is about the same size as my DR, so it would probably work fine. The viability of taking any bike on this ride has more to do with the skill of the rider rather than the bike.

I camped at pacific valley which is just east of mosquito lake and below the pacific grade summit. It wasn't really that cold at night. A 3 season tent with mesh panels and a twenty degree sleeping bag did fine.

Hey, I was just up there working this week. Its really in my back yard, so I like to be reminded of how special the area really is. If anybody wants to build a little get away in the Sierras, I happen to know someone who is selling a couple 5 acre undeveloped lots near Markleeville and also a stunning home near to Woodfords/Diamond Valley.

They're not technological marvels, but they will allow you to spank sprotbiles in the twisties one weekend and run gnarly trails the next weekend.

Got to find the time away from work to do a ride like this.
Was up at Tahoe with the wife last week in a 350z convertible, was nice but not near as nice as riding my DR650.
Do you have GPS maps of your adventure?
I am always looking for roads in that area.
