anyone ever hve to go through this?

i suffer from a problematic big toe on my right foot, been having ingrown toenails off and on since middle school. last time i had the wedge type remove of the side, it didnt really help. this time the doctor wants to remove the whole thing, and kill the root.... :party yay.... lol

so im gonna go ahead and listen to his advice and say good bye to the big toe nail... :thumbdown

anyone ever have this done?

and yes, i know its a nasty topic... just be glad i didnt post pics :twofinger

Wow. Sounds like you should just go ahead and get rid of the whole toe. End it once and for all!

I tore my ring finger nail off swapping a tire out once. #@&*%$@ Explentitive deleted. (screwdrivers are not tire irons) The only bitch is these things take forever to grow back, and must be kept filed smooth so they don`t catch anything, and the nail bed is pink never seen daylight soft meat that will reward you with IRS audit like pain if smashed, poked or fucked with in anyway.

New one came back smoother than old for some reason. Have you tried soaking it in Yagermeister?

I have had it done on my big toe of one foot. The procedure itself was no different than having the normal procedure done. The difference is that they now cut into the side of the toe to cut/kill the edges of the nail bed. The recovery was the worse part. Was pretty painful to walk for awhile.

Once the nail grows back, it no longer covers the toe side-to-side. I'm glad I had it done though.

Thinking about having my other toe done someday but waiting until I have a week to recover and don't want to ride.

edit: They don't have to kill the WHOLE root as they did in my case...just the sides so you still can grow a nail.

Sounds about right. I had 3 ingrowns on one foot big toe and 2 on the other, doctor finally killed both roots. They both grew back, one is kind of like a claw :wtf:teeth and the other is more normal. Both hurt for a while after the fact but now they arent any more sensitive then normal, shifting etc is fine.

I've had it done on both big toes. It is very surreal to not feel pain, but be able to feel the Dr. jabbing the poison (or whatever they use to kill the root there) down into your toe. I had my left done when I was a kid, had the right done after it went all fucked up after being hit by a truck on my bike. The Dr. didn't do as good a job as the first one though, and I've got a little bit of nail that grows out of the edge I can't pull out. Lame.

awesome. cant wait. ill try and take pics during the process if the doc will let me :)

LOL surreal is a good way to put it.

I got like 4 shots in each toe cuz they were "big" (you know what they say about big toes :D ) and then they go numb pretty much instantly and he busts out all kinds of tools and is cutting and slicing and dicing and all kinds of stuff and u just feel like someone is touching your toe with a finger - SO WEIRD!

TOE IS ALL BETTER..nail grew back

yup. first time, when I was a kid, the dr actually used a strip of latex, wrapped it around my toe, and pulled it down, making it a tourniquet. the other toe was numbed by anesthetic. the anesthetic burns like a motherfucker! but goes numb after a bit

After fighting with repeated ingrown toe nails on both sides of both big toes, and learning how to cut them out myself with scissors, pliars, and a bunch of cussing, I finally had them done. I asked the doctor to just burn the fuckers out entirely, but he said that was not a good solution. He had found that total removal could cause skin related complications later, and was not really needed. He burned out the edges of both sides of both big toes with acid, and three of the four are perfect. One, grows back a little, and I'll go in to have it toasted again. I wore normal shoes upon leaving the Dr.'s office, and went on to work 5 more hours that day. The first time I had toe work done, I rode my GS500 to and from the Dr., the patient was my right foot, so shifting was a non-issue. Best of luck in your decision; personally, I wish I had done it sooner.
