I'll try to make this short....

I have always used Motul 5100 15/50W syn-blend in my bike.

I changed the oil today....

while pouring in the recently purchased oil (motul 5100 15/50W syn blend) it seemed to be a much lighter color than the oil I used in the past ...

When I was done I had a little bit of oil left in a quart bottle from the last time I changed the oil (motul 5100 15/50w syn-blend)......so i poured a little bit of it in a paper cup...then I poured some from the 4 quart bottle I just purchased (and just put in my bike) into a different cup and placed them side by side...the most recently bought stuff is so much lighter in color than the oil I purchased a few months ago.....same brand, same weight, both syn blend....i wonder if its possible the stuff I just bought was mislabeled....right now I'm to paranoid to start the bike becuase I'm not sure what I just added to it...?

think I'm going drain it and start over

photos below cup on left has oil purchased a few days ago....cup on right contains oil from a quart bottle I had left over from my last oil change..

Could be mislabeled, could be nothing.

Take both bottles, note the lot numbers on them, and give the manufacturer a call (their phone number will be somewhere on the back of the bottle) asking them what's up.

If they've had a problem with a particular lot they'll be able to tell you. Without a chemical analysis, anyone here would just be guessing, but the manufacturer should know.

i've actually noticed that with the Motul i bought.
the one in the quarts were lighter than the larger container

Oil color has exactly nothing to do with anything.

^- What he said.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like the old stuff may have just oxidized to me. Even the old stuff doesn't really look 'bad'

How full was it and how old?

New stuff looks like good, clean oil to me. I don't think I'd drain it just yet. I'd probably just run it, but like I said, if you're worried about it, give them a call and inquire about the lot number on the bottle.
