What the fuck is a McLaren F1 doing in the sticks of california?
This is SO....... typical rich guy stuff. Extremely high performance cars are bogged around in street traffic after not being driven for months and then something goes wrong. For god's sake, these ain't Priuses, you moron owners. Give that sucker to someone who will DRIVE it and take care of it. And get a new Obama mobile.

OFG (and everyone) -- for this reason I make a point of including the non-emergency numbers of area departments in my cellphone. Most modern phones are capable of thousands of entries, use 20 of them. If you're in an urban area, seriously consider stopping at a gas station and calling 911 from a payphone rather than relying on a cell.
Some PSAPs also have published direct numbers, and those are worth saving as well.
I had this problem in Michigan too, where the Wayne, Washtenaw Sheriff's office and MSP couldn't get me transferred quickly enough, but I had all the local numbers I needed, so I informed them that I'd just place a direct call.

I've seen this same thing many times. The quickest route (for an emergency vehicle) would be the wrong way on the off-ramp, but instead they go the long way around. Are they getting their directions from TomTom? or is there a hard-and-fast policy (based on bad experience) against going up the down ramp (even when the ramp is closed by LEOs)?... The quickest route to respond would have been to use the Masten overpass over 101 and then drive the wrong way about 150 feet down the offramp to...

You don't plan to go the wrong way on ramps unless there's a hard closure (as a general rule). Too much potential for people missing the CHP with the flares or whatever and info on that doesn't travel from CHP to dispatch to dispatch to engine that quickly. I'm sure there's some variance around but I (in my admittedly somewhat limited experience have never driven the wrong way on a ramp or freeway. Short, local, one-way street, yes, but that's it.
You must be a fire fighter? I spoke to my friend who is OFD. Her station covers 880. She said the call goes into CHP dispatch and then they call OFD and opposing stations dispatch engines. That way they're assured to get at least one engine on scene.
