Was there an media article that took place on this particular incident? It appears the officer intended to go after the oncoming vehicle. He turned on the emergency lights for a few moments. Then swiped the motorcyclist without seeing him. I hope the rider made it:wow

edit: figured this may be more appropriate for the video section

jeebus freakin A....the poster of that video is a local guy...filmed me on the DynoDrag a year or so back...man....im wondering now is if the rider is local...:(

+1... it looked like the cop planned to flip a u-turn and didn't see the motorcyclist in his blind spot. There is no way the biker could have avoided it. Unfortunately I see cops do dangerous shit all the time and get away with it. I hope that officer's life gets fucked up as bad as the motorcyclist he hit.

If there wasn't any video I really wonder if it all would have been blamed on an out-of-control and speeding motorcyclist..

:wow :wtf I don't know what to say other than the cop fucked up.OUCH!hope that rider is ok

Probably.
The bike wasn't in his blind spot, imho. He looked to his left, slowed, waited till the car cleared, and turned. I don't think he looked again. Maybe if the bike was a truck he would have seen it. I do not know.

Holy hell. That could happen to anybody.

I know, always expect every car to do the worst possible thing at the worst possible time, but in ten years of riding, I've never had to avoid something like that.

I hope the motorcyclist gets a fair settlement. Very lucky to have such clear video evidence.

I'm sure the investigation will find that the officer acted in good faith trying to execute his multi-lane maneuvre and that the rider was in violation of the law by being less than 300 feet behind an emergency vehicle with its lights on. The officer will have to return from paid administrative leave and the rider will have several months of trying to get the city/state/county to compensate him while trying to heal up.

I HOPE NOT:thumbdown

so does anybody have a story behind the video?

Lots of the movies show gross errors in judgement or other fuckups on the part of the rider. In this case he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Seriously doubt it was intentional but that was very very bad.

I disagree with your comment, the officer was doing what he is trained and taught. Motorcyclist take risks every time we straddle our machines, and we all know we are small and hard to be seen. This officer was responding a call, possibly and in theory, a call that may have affected you directly. What I am saying is most of these officers are out there trying there best to protect and serve. In this case it does not seem to be negligence on behalf of the officer.

Now in the case of the sheriff, Counsil, it was negligence that killed my friend. With that kind of action then yeah he should be ruined especially since he has a record of acting out of negligence.

with an after market exhaust that, may have been quite a bit louder, he may have been heard, officer may have noticed him at that point. Just saying here is a good example of the benefits to aftermarket exhausts. Just thought of this as I was watching the news and how more state legislators want to make it so we have to have our exhausts inspected every two years.

I wonder if overhead lights have anything to do with it? With all the flashing lights from the cop car I wonder if it makes it harder for the cop to see the single, or narrow lights bike have? In reguards to nights vision and light reflection off of objects....especially the car to his left he slows for last second?

So now cops don't have to look where they are going? Nice.

One fucktard didn't properly scan to his left before tying to flip a U-turn and that makes all cops guilty? :wtf

How would all of the people using this incident as a brush to paint all cops badly like to be grouped in with every ride who does stupid things on motorcycles?

The gentleman to whom I responded was trying to make the case that the cop in question was to be excused because he was perhaps responding to a call. My response to that is totally fair, because clearly what the gentleman is implying IS that cops don't need to look where there going. Read his post again.

Sorry you have a problem with that.
