Westcoast connection annual ride Crash on bridge

^^^Rel is C.H.P i think its his job to catch speeders, stunnas, etc, etc.
:Popcorn

Which we do, as well as car thieves, bike thieves, car jackers.... Also, we scrape up stunters, both bike and cage, all day long.

We also have to explain to innocent family members why their loved ones were killed by reckless drivers.

I never claimed to be perfect. Yes, I've gone over the speed limit, followed to closely, made an unsafe lane change from time to time. I've also received a ticket for those lapses in judgement, and have spent more than one afternoon in traffic school.

However, I have NEVER done a wheelie on a public road. I save that shit for the track.

Typical police officer. Like you never had fun on a public road and broke a few traffic laws. Save your bs. I ride with officers all the time. Occasionally they wheelie. Obviously you are perfect. Never sped either huh? Go catch some real criminals. Typical. Go after the easy pickins. No wonder murderers and rapist get away.:wtf (no offense to my friends and real officers)

:rolleyes:thumbdown

For the record, I am very jealous of stunters because I can't do it myself :thumbup

though...I don't think interfering with traffic and stunting on a road with so many other commuters is such a good idea.

Fact is that both stunners and squids on the back roads know full well there is a time and place for this kind of riding. If the riders on the bridge felt they were behaving then why did the video say they were running from the popo?

While they did pick a time when the bridge was not busy, as Frank says; what if there was an emergency and the backup caused someone's ambulance to be delayed 30 mins? On a major artery such as the bridge, this is tantamount to manslaughter and could be charged as such. You just don't know what Murphy has in store for you.

Once everyone gets on board with the idea that we ALL share the roads at ALL times--not just when you want it, then maybe we can get some sort of fairness in the public's eye or in the courtroom in front of a jury who may be judging against you on in your case because you ride a bike.

I enjoy watching good riders, I'll admit it. But I also don't want to miss the show I paid $80 to see, or be late for work, or watch some poor kid get hauled off in an ambulance to watch 10 seconds of riders on their back wheel.

Cheyenne did not crash on my group ride.

Hell no! That would be 10x as embarrassing! And I might not get invited back, if I was pointedly screwing around when I went down, which is exactly what happened.

On the group ride itself, like all group rides, I try to comport myself within my skill limits. I also believe that this is a requirement of the ride itself.

I would think that you would have the same kinda guidelines on a group stunting outing on major highways?

The group ride I'd been on was the most challenging I've participated in, due to all the mud that my streetbike was confused to find itself in. I just took working those skills to the next level (The ground!) when I found myself in a *quiet* *traffic-free* area. Kinda like a stunter practicing in a parking lot.

I like seeing stunts as much as anyone, but if you can't see the difference between lofting the front for a little bit on a quiet road and what we're talking about here...

All that said, I know there have been crashes on group rides, but of the riders and riding I see, I perceive a lot of drive to keep things under control for everyone's sake. Exactly why I practiced what I did *after* the ride was over.

Why would I want to hold the ride up dealing with my playtime antics?

OK, you guys have convinced me to see the light. From now on, I'm going to shake my fist at these kids as they go by. In fact, the more I think about it! The more angry I get!

God damn young kids these days! Breaking laws! Raising hell! One day they gonna bust they head open! What is wrong with these damn kids! When I was a kid we respected our elders! We didn't run around on one wheel! We didn't even have wheels! We had to play with blocks of wood! Then we had to walk to school uphill both ways! Thats if we didn't have to work in the factories! Damn kids today have it too easy! Now they are out run a muck! Where are the parents! I blame them! Kids today have no respect! When I was a kid, if I had no respect, my dad would smack me six ways to sunday! Thats what these kids need!

Time and place for shenanigans, risking the safety of people minding thier own business on a public bridge is just flat out selfish and shitty. Had one car accidently tapped a rider you guys would be screaming at the top of your lungs. Want to be a rebel? Don't involve others that don't want to be involved.

Where is BlackNinjaZX10 when there is plenty of stunna bashing left to be done?

The douchebaggery is strong with this one. :laughing

Repeat this mantra when you're lying broken and busted in a ditch, or on the side of the road after an inattentive cager gives you a love tap and keeps on cruising down the road, chatting away on his cell phone and totally oblivious to the fact that he just bumped a rider off the road. Authorities are usually among the first to arrive on the scene.

Let me preface this with the fact that I have a large ammount of respect for certain CHP officers, my best friends dad was one for 30+ years, and I was the one to contact CHP to help with the Sac to Bay ride many years ago. Id have to say about 65% of all cops ive met are actually cool if you treat em right .... like any other person.

But.......

You are retarded if you think thats provable to a crime that would hold up in court. Yes there are illegal actions going on but prove the fact of who was doing the wheelie. Lets see, you have a 5'6-5'10 human doing a wheelie on a black bike in a black jacket with writing on it.

Plus I agree that this is an illegal action that held up traffic for 3 minutes at the most. I never see you guys bitching about some dickwad wrecking their car and holding up traffic for hours.

I hate the holier than though attitude of about half the members, if not more on this board. Act like you guys are all goody two shoes but in reality you give a bad representation of the members of this board as a bunch of uptight pricks. You make me sick.

I think that the issue is this: It endangers others. It delays others. The riders have no right to stunt on the highways, especailly the Bay Bridge.

The more people that see stunting on the highways, puts more pressure on law makers and cops to crack down on these actions.

The more the government has to get involved, the more grants are written, the more money is dedicated to cops to get these guys.

The problem there is that we don't know who they are, so a shotgun approach is taken. Every sport bike with a bent plate or no lights, or whatever the reason is going to get stopped. Highway 1, 9, 35, 17, 101, 280, 680, 580, and so on becomes a motorcycle dead zone.

The more these guys stunt, the more it hurts everyone.

Whether you agree with it or not, does not matter. Perception is reality, and the perception is that all sport bike riders are law breakers. Now we know this is not the case, however the people who bitch the loudest will cause the most headache for the riders.

Stunting does not belong on the public highways.

Rel, first of all, let me thank you for an intelligent response, so few of those in here these days.

I see where you have a point on the shotgun approach but when does a bent plate have anything to do with stunting ..... i guess thats just up to the officers discretion but it seems to me like its fairly easy to pick out a stunt bike and someone thats gunna do something over the normal rider.

The problem with the shotgun approach is that it profiles people, it makes riders a target, albeit a target of our own making, but I have much experience with being profiled. As being a member of SBFMC we are profiled far too much and Id have to say, with the exception of one CHP officer, Ive been harassed up and down every time im pulled over, everything from telling me im a gang banger to trying to find something that isnt legit about my bike.

I also dont believe that stunting should be performed on the streets if you plan on staying outta trouble(I travel with the largest sanctioned Stunt Competition in the nation www.xdlshow.com), but I do believe stunting started on the streets and there will always be a place for it there.

I agree somewhat that it endangers others but in my experience in 10 years of stunting I havent really seen more than 2-3 occasions where anyone that didnt know they were being put in harms way was involved (IE: stunters and filmers), and in those situations no one got hurt. What I find is that more peopel out there are neighborhood rangers and wannabe cops that tend to think its their job to call on the guy thats holding a 65 mph wheelie for 4 miles like he isnt in control, when really all they have to do is be aware of their surrounding, just as if it were another car. I could see that turning into a situation where they feel bad if the person crashes and they run them over, but no more so if a car goes sideways and gets tboned by them.

As far as grants and more money for more officers etc, you just cant sell me on the fact that theres enough officers right now in general. Maybe you need to borrow a few from danville where I live, i swear I dont go more than a mile without seeing one everywhere I look. I live 2.3 miles from the freeway on a main street and I generally see 2-3 cops on the way home. Over the last few years we must have trippled the on duty cops if not more from previous years, cause we all have to admit, they are the money generating force of the streets for the government. Dont take that as scornful, I mean they are just doing a job, but I tend to like more cops that wear the badge and dont let the badge wear them.

The grants are normally for overtime to specific enforcement. Ie: DUI, stolen vehicles, motorcycle enforcement....

As for the shotgun approach, that's really the only one we have.

You are correct, a bent plate has nothing to do with stunting. However, it is PC to make the stop. Once the stop is made we go from there.

There are a lot of riders, especially new riders that have very powerful motorcycles and no M1. If inexperienced, these riders are not only a danger to themselves, but to everyone around them.

I give a lot of warnings to riders that I stop that have an M1, insurance, proper registration. (There's actually a thread on BARF attesting to this)

However, if there is no license, no M1 the bike gets towed. If there is no insurance, the rider get cited. If they are acting in a reckless manner, they go to jail.

Clearly there is a need for a place for people to come and stunt. The Bay Bridge or 101 isn't that place.

I guarantee you there are more wannabe racers crashing on Redwood Rd. alone than people crashing wheelies on all the Bay Area freeways combined.

But I guess they're wearing power ranger lookin` full leathers, so it's ok with BARF-ers.

Your assumption is not only incorrect but naive.

We have many more crashes on freeways than other roads. As for gear, we encourage ATGATT, however that has nothing to do whether or not the rider is:
A: Good or B: licensed.

And before I get blasted about "profiling" bikes, I tow/impound a 10/1 ratio of unlicensed cars vs. bikes. That is 10 cars for every 1 bike.
