I think Truck-Lite makes a 7" LED headlight if you go single, and JW Speaker does a 4.5". That is if you are looking for power efficiency. Not sure how expensive they are, but they are DOT approved.

I have a large selection of projectors I was planning on retrofitting into a headlight, but those led headlights that jw speaker does are pretty cool looking... wish they were cheaper

I was all set to do an HID projector mod to my MTS, but decided that LED projectors will probably be commonly available within a year or so, the tech is moving fast and manufacturing them isn't terribly expensive. I could totally see drop in units appearing (although heat dissipation might be an issue)
 
How much has all this cost you so far? Not including the price of the bike itself, but the materials and parts.

Probably about $2500 if I were to pay current prices on all the carbon, etc, and including the monthly membership to the machine shop

You will be 10X the engineer you would have been now that you are developing the knowledge required to cut metal and make parts. Good on you. It BOGGLES MY MIND that basics of machining and welding are not taught to mechanical engineers. The amount of money you will be able to save a company because you understand the steps involved in turning a "design" into a product is staggering.

Well, other than the whole gsxr front end...

All the carbon I've used I had laying around from years ago. Bought most of it way before prices shot up due to the increased demand by the military.

Lots of little stuff adds up too.

I've had the same conversation with many people. I can't fathom why we aren't taught this stuff.
 
Some bureaucrat somewhere decided that it didn't need to be taught. "Meh, they can learn that when they get hired. We need that time to teach them useless stuff."
 
What happened I want more! No one said you could take off for the holidays.
 
Just got home from visiting family for the holidays to a package waiting at my house. Got a new laser for the laser scanner. I'll spend the next day or two building and programming a motor controller and servo to scan with so I can get the bike in 3d.

Dunno if you know this trick already- you didn't mention it.

When doing layups with the lost foam method- wrap the foam plug in clear packing tape. After melting the foam out you can pull the masking tape from the inside of the part. No goo cleanup, and leaves a better finish on the inside than the outside. I bet one continuous wrap of tape along those runners woulda pulled right out.

I miss being in college and doing this stuff. Now I just drink and buy things with the money from work and lack of time/facilities.
