Got 2 "anti-fog" shields with my new Bell helmet. In the mornings if it's less than say 50 degrees, the damn things fog up on the inside even with the vents full open. Even if I crack the shield, lower my head to allow major air flow on both sides of the shield, the fog doesn't totally go away. I do live in Monterey so it's obviously more humid here.

So what about you guys in the City or Pacifica?

I use RainX anti-fog, but I've heard amazing things about the pin-lock system. :2cents

+1 on all of the above

also look at respro masks

Yuze guys using FogTech, how often are you REALLY applying it? I have success with other anti-fog formulations but need to reapply darned near everyday.

live in Moss Beach but no realy problem as long as I leave the visor cracked. spit or liquid laundry detergent is the cheep fix.

Once a week if not less often. I guess my breath isn't all that hot. :laughing

Fogcity are ok, but star after awhile. The trick with waxes etc is to reapply them often (yeah, pretty much daily). My Shoei sucks for fog unless I use the nose guard. I am going to go pinlock next time.

I've used a bunch of chemicals (fog off and clarity defog), a pinlock shields, and the respro fog mask.

I can't get the chemicals to work that well. Clarity does work better than fog off though. Pinlock works perfectly in terms of fog, but there's still condensation and slight image distortion (it gets really annoying at night). The best solution for me is the respro fog mask. No fog, no condensation, no distortion. Only down side that it doesn't work in my HJC RPS-10, so I still have to use a pinlock in that.

This pisses me off cause the functions of the helmet are limited. The most important is to protect your noggin and i think a close second is to provide visibility.

So far shark is the only company to address this.

At least once a day. Sometimes twice. The usefulness of a completely fog-free visor when it's raining can't be emphasized enough.

I have dealt with this issue for over a year. Tried many solutions and ultimately use what is best for me.
My glasses fog up inside the helmet. Had problems with Fog Tech not working and called the dude. He said it doesn't work sometimes on treated lens (Rx glasses with anti-glare, UV, who knows what else).

Clarity Defog does work on the glasses and the inside sheild but tends to leave a smudgy layer that's crap at night (like almost all sprays).

A fog mask is good but if you wear a Balaclava then there can be fitment issues.
Currently I wear Fog Mask, treat glasses and sheild with Clarity before each non-trivial ride. I agree, you don't want to get to the middle of somewhere with it getting dark and find the potions have worn off, so carry the crap with you to re-appy or just do it before leaving....
Good luck.

one more solution you can try that noone has brought up is to get a snowmobiling version of your visor.

scorpion and HJC have them for example

Having seen the Scorpion one in person, I'm about 99% sure that thing will have water pouring in if it rains. That's what kept me from buying it.

my GF has had exo400 for over 3 years and i have an exo1000 that ive been using during this seasons downpours. neither of them have leaked a drop of water.

i dont have the option of driving a car to work so my helmets get to play in the meanest downpours

I use Clarity “DEFOG it” solution on my eye glasses. With the lens DRY, I smear the solution over the lens with my finger, let it air dry completely, and then gently polish the lens with a soft cloth. It works pretty well in otherwise severe fogging conditions.

I used the same solution on the face shield and it didn’t work that well in fog and heavy rain. Maybe I didn’t use enough of that solution and didn’t let it air dry first. So I switched to pinlock shield/insert. With pinlock fogging of the face shield becomes a non-issue, except there are two MNOR annoyances with the pinlock insert:

- The field of view is reduced somewhat, especially top/bottom edges, so it’s a little like looking thru goggles. On a sportbike, with the forward leaning position and peering out thru the top edge of the face shield, I had to push my helmet up and/or tilt my head up a bit more. No issue on a bike with an upright riding position.

- The two-layer construction (face shield and pinlock insert) results in minor reflections (i.e., double-vision) at night from other vehicles’ headlight, taillight, street lights, etc.)

Overall, I gladly live with the two minor annoyances for the foggy-free performance.
