The gun expert from the New York Times

Yeah… Ignorance is bliss... I think the media is more reactionary or liberal (depending on their bias) than the people (citizens). Its how they (the media) sell advertising – got to grab the attention, the hell with the facts…

This is ture, but what is scary is how the BSGP (blood sucking general public) completely agrees and hangs on the medias every word. Can't people make their own desicions any more? We are becoming the sheep and cannon fodder the politicians want us to be. This is what is frustrating to me. When are people going to pull their heads from their asses?

The sensationalistic and irresponsible media in this nation is one of the greatest evils that we suffer.

A democracy requires a responsible media. Unfortunately, I have a better chance of finding out how Lindsay Lohan spent her day than I have of finding out about policies and events that really affect us. :thumbdown

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) calls for gun-control legislation aimed at protecting lawmakers
By Rachel Weiner

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) plans to introduce legislation making it illegal to carry a firearm within 1,000 feet of lawmakers and some other government officials.

"It is imperative that we do all that we can to give law enforcement the tools they need to ensure the safety of New Yorkers and prevent an attack before it happens," King said at a news conference with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "That is why, as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and co-chair of the Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns, I will be introducing legislation that would make it illegal to knowingly carry a gun within a 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials."

Bloomberg argued for reforms of the background check system.

"Just as we saw after Virginia Tech, the Arizona tragedy has once again exposed fatal cracks in our background check system," Bloomberg said. "The law says that drug abusers can't buy guns, but even though Jared Loughner was rejected by the military for drug use and arrested on drug charges, he was able to pass a background check and buy a gun. It should be clear to everyone that the system is broken, and it is time for our leaders in Washington to step up and fix it."

King is the first Republican lawmaker to seek new gun-control legislation in the wake of Saturday's fatal shootings. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) plans to introduce a bill to restrict sales of high-capacity ammunition clips like the ones used by the Tucson gunman.

Bloomberg News reports that sales of Glock pistols have risen since the attack. "When something like this happens, people get worried that the government is going to ban stuff," said gun shop owner Greg Wolff. "We're at double our volume over what we usually do."

RIVERSIDE (AP) — U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer says its time to look at adopting more stringent regulations nationwide governing who can legally carry concealed weapons.
The California Democrat said Tuesday states that don’t screen people who want to carry concealed weapons aren’t protecting their citizens.
Boxer’s remarks were prompted by last week’s shooting in Tucson, Ariz., in which six people were killed and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 13 others were wounded.
Arizona law allows any U.S. citizen 21 or older to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.
Boxer also says she supports a proposal by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., to ban high-capacity ammunition clips.
She spoke at a news conference in the Riverside County district attorney’s office.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

And pray tell, what liberty is infringed when you are only able to carry a gun within 1001 feet of a politician?

Actually there have been several incidents of open carry during political rallies, and last year a guy dropped his piece by accident while at a Giffords event.

In Arizona in 09...

Is he expressing his 2nd Amendment rights, about to shoot someone, or yanking chains?

Typical tactic of knee jerk politicians, limit the rights of law abiding citizens as a means of controlling criminal acts. Never has worked, never will work but yet they keep trying it over and over and over again.

That said, I'm a bit torn on the issue. I think sometimes it's not a bad thing to remind the legislators that we are free people and not just people so suck money from, but also there should be some level of decorum and respect.

As for the crazy guy shooting things up, that's really the price of freedom. Luckily it really doesn't happen that often. But really, we have a choice of freedom with bad things happening some of the time, or really living in a police state where everything is controlled. There are no gun controls that would have stopped this without severely limiting the gun rights of the rest of the country. Even then, with total banning, it's not that hard for a nut to come across a gun on the black market. If they can bring in drugs they can bring in guns. Again, freedom means sometimes we risk bad things. Kinda like riding a motorcycle. And I've lost more friends to motorcycles than to guns.

All of them. A man could be legally carrying, just walking down the street and be within 1000 feet of a politician speaking inside an event center or community center with multiple walls and doors between them.

We have the 2nd Amendment in order to kill the government. This is a direct attack on that promise in the constitution. The American way is the way of will backed up by violent force. It’s really that simple. This is one further attempt to move us farther from that way.

How about a law making it illegal for a goverment official to open their piehole when they dont have a fucking clue what they are talking about?:laughing

So arrest every Democrap and Republican't holding public office? I like it...

Can they wear a transponder that links with my GPS and correlates with school and other no-carry zones, so I can find a legal route to where I am going while carrying, preferably not offroad?

Not exactly.

The first 4 words in the 2nd Amendment is "A well regulated Militia". The state's militia is there to protect the government.

The next part is the right to bear arms, almost as important as the militia.

The Founders intent was three fold, 1. To defend what eventually became the US government, 2. To protect us from undemocratic government, and 3. Our natural right to self-defense.

And there are plenty of arms regulations already. Knife length limitations, Tommy Guns illegal, 50 caliber ban, and a license to purchase explosives. I think the Patriot Act is more detrimental to my freedom then a 1000 foot no gun zone.

P.S. The cops don't care if you are walking by a building with your piece. They care if you are in the crowd with good sight lines holding a firearm. And I can't blame them.

The National Guard didn't exist for another 120 years after that was drafted.

You might want to read up on what constituted a militia in that time.

P.S. Preamble aside, the operative clause is VERY clear:

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

Thanks for playing.
