try not to jump my ass for starting another insurance thread. Just did a search. #1 result - Dani's embezzlement thread. Not kidding. Tenth on the search list - How old are barfers. Search usually (but not always) sucks.

So anyway, my ins co is seriously fucking with me (over the liability of having a son!). I'm furious and it's time to find someone else. At any rate, they don't cover moto's, and Progressive doesn't cover homes.

Who's the best with a bundled plan? I'm looking for house/cars/moto/umbrella. One driver, clean record, with a son off in college (who is on his mother's policy anyway). Coverage needed: one house, two uninspiring cars, one very low powered m/c.

I've had good luck with State Farm. I believe there's a few agents on the board as well.

best for me was Geico, they beat state Farm on all 3 -- the bike, the house and the cars. You need to call around, what is best for person A, isn't always the best for person B.

AAA moto policies have come WAY down. I dumped them and went with Farmers because AAA had no decent moto prices or bundling, but now they do, and I will probably switch back this summer. They deserve a shot, check them out.

While State Farm was more expensive than Progressive 2 years ago when I considered moving over the bikes, the fact that I got an umbrella policy essentially for free with the move convinced me that was the way to go.

With an umbrella policy you can lower some of the liability limits on the individual vehicle policies and essentially get the more comprehensive umbrella for free.

thx for the feedback people. btw, when I looked a few years back, neither Progressive or Geico did houses.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Steer away from Farmers
We had everything with them for 20 years, cars, house, bike
Until our recent move to Arizona
They tripled my moto insurance and the cars were way higher too
I asked why(no claims in years) and was told they were doing away with many of their discounts and no longer rewarded long term customers

I just got Progressive. Way cheaper-but too soon to vouch for their service

Statefarm has been pretty good. Allstate was crazy expensive (as of 1 year ago). Switched all three (2moto's, 2 Cars, 1 house) to SF and went down a lot.

State farm for me too. They look at the "crashworthyness" of a bike, not strictly at displacement. I was surprised that my 1200GS costs less to insure than my ZR-750S. Liability that is...so if you are looking to insure a squid bike, you might want to shop around. We have a V-Star on the policy, 650cc and the liability ins is about $70/year for 500/250 WITH uninsured motorist thrown in at the same level.

Go ahead and call my old boss, Mary at State Farm. Her number is 415-401-7000.

Yes, she's HAWT.:laughing

Her assistant, Cynthia is HAWT too.:laughing

Tell them Andrew sent you.:thumbup

OK, maybe I fucked up ^^^, but got this advice just a wee bit late. Went with Allstate today. But to be fair, I did call State Farm last week, I just never made it into my local office to check out the two women that were responsible for the quote. I went by the (insurance) numbers. State Farm is very competitive, I'll give them that, but they were also very concerned about my son's driving record (1 ticket), while I was trying hard to decouple his driving record from my premiums.

Lots of interesting info/numbers to throw out:
AAA - very competitive, except with motos
State Farm - competitive all around
Allstate - far lower moto prices than Progressive when UIM included, but no new Home policies in CA
Hartford - best prices by far, if don't have a child driving, and they don't do motos anyway
Progressive - they've been consistently great to deal with, but don't do homes in CA
GEICO - had a bad experience with them, and they don't do homes in CA (I think)

So when I initially said my current company was screwing me, it was Hartford. When my son went away to college last fall (w/o a car), they insisted I cover him, which I accepted at the time. Then when my son's mother put him on her policy last week, Hartford still insisted I cover him (WTF!?!). They would not budge, would not listen to reason. And the real kick-in-the-ass is that their prices for a child were about $600/year higher than Allstate all along (so I paid an extra $1800 for him to drive 3 years in HS). Hartford basically laid down the law, "insure him (for $1500/yr!!!) while away at college, or exclude him and cancel your umbrella coverage." They told me this repeatedly and sent me forms to execute it. And remember, he is insured on his mother's policy. They insisted on double-coverage now, when they clearly told me 3 years ago (when I switched to them) that only one parent had to cover him. Man, that is fucked up. And once State Farm used the word "exclude" (as a possibly), they were dropped from serious consideration.

Btw, when/if any of you find yourself in my position, AAA and Allstate both will essentially insure your child for free if away at college (200+ miles) and not driving. This is a big frickin' deal.

State farm for me too. ... We have a V-Star on the policy, 650cc and the liability ins is about $70/year for 500/250 WITH uninsured motorist thrown in at the same level.

They quoted me much higher. Is this just the additional cost of adding a 2nd bike? Btw, when combining all four policies Allstate and State Farm's quotes were very close. They were the top two.

But actually, this brings up another question. At what point should I drop full coverage? Progressive charged me $107 for collision, $39 for comp. Would you guys even pay $146 for full coverage on a bike worth maybe $2.5K tops?

Allstate here. Got everything with them (house/truck/bike) and have a mega cool agent that treats me well. He's in Mt. View if you want his name & number.
This ^

Except my agent is in Pleasanton. I have home/life/cars/bikes all with Allstate and they've taken good care of me. They're also great to work with when you have a claim. I've been on both sides of being the one responsible or the other person responsible with Allstate insurance and they're easier to deal with than Progressive (not bad) or AAA (a real hassle).
