driving with one arm in a cast?

I was wondering what legal issues there might be with driving with my right wrist in a cast. Can't use the right arm. Turn signals are left hand, and I feel that I can safely drive one handed. However, the doctor I saw claimed that there was a law prohibiting driving when an arm is disabled unless you have taken some special test at the DMV.

So, presuming I am capable of driving in a safe manner, are there legal issues?
 
I don't see how you're going to be able to hold a late in one hand, and your cell phone in the other. I guess you could drive... If you call that driving.
 
A guy I work with is paralyzed in one arm, he drives with no restrictions.
 
I got conflicting answers from the DMV. Initially I was told that they only care that you can control the vehicle. Which is most likely the case. When I went back to take the stupid driving test that I had to after my accident the guy giving the exam wasn't going to let me with my arm in a sling but I finally managed to force the issue and he let me.

As long as you can control it, you'll be fine.
 
I once saw a woman with no arms drive a specially equipped van with her feet. She had controls set up where she could operate everything with just her feet.
 
It will be harder to drink coffee, text and talk on the cell phone at the same time, but I am sure you can do it.
 
Wait, are you riding a motorcycle or driving a car? Is it a manual or automatic?

I dislocated my right shoulder and had my arm in a sling for a week. Other than getting used to shifting across my body, it was fine. If this is your left arm, that is 100 times better.
 
It is legal. There is no law prohibiting driving with one arm in a cast. As long as you can safely control the vehicle, you'll be fine.

Doctors are big pansies. I got allergies and they said I should stop eating onions. I had a couple kids and they said I should stop riding motorcycles. I got rabies and they said I should stop hunting jackals. I got a skull fracture and they said I should stop playing rugby. I got syphilis and they said I should stop barebacking whores.

Who is laughing now? (but not while I urinate)

saw someone with no arm drive a moto although he has some equipment that allows him to. he said he always gets tickets while parked in the handicapped parking and then when they see his arm, they dismiss the ticket.

How did they see his arm? That is just un-American. We all have the right to bear arms.

I drove just fine with 1 arm last year, and that was a stick shift. In some countries, and possibly states, you have to drive an automatic and have one of those doorknob things attached to your steering wheel, but in California, as bojangle says, if you can drive safely you are OK.

There was an AFM racer with one arm years ago. He rode on and off track. The poor got got shot on the street in a horrible event.

did he have a prosthetic?
 
i broke my right leg when i was 19 or so, and drove around with it in a full length cast. automatics were pretty easy, i just put my right leg over the center console into the passenger foot area, and used ol' lefty for the pedals.
driving a stick was a bit trickier, but i still managed it. :teeth probably not the safest thing i've done, but nowhere near the dumbest, either! :laughing

You beat me! :laughing I had surgery on my right ankle once, and had the cast for about 8 or 9 weeks, but it only went up to my knee. My car had a stick, and I drove it all the time. :dunno
