Anyone ever found a really fast guy in a car during your moto ride?

I am absolutelly sure there are car/drivers combos out there that can smoke me even on roads I know well even when I ride my best on a well sorted bike.
I just have yet to meet them in 12years of making a point in racing every cager that has shown any sign of willingness.

you can drive a car 9/10 or 9.5/10 on the streets

I disagree. Just like motorcycles, the fast guys on the street are generally not the fast guys on a track. The fastest that I have been on a curvy road as a driver or passenger, does not compare to what the same car is capable of on the track. It isn't even close.

This :thumbup

Yup.

A couple of weekends ago came up on a red late-model Corvette, lowered and big tires, mature (white hair) driver. Wasn't even going to try to pass him, but it was spirited fun going down the backside of 9.

Somebody commented about a "local driver" in a Mazda. I have found that local drivers know the road so well they are really hard to beat. Had a old pickup catch me on Mt Hamilton a long time ago, when my youth said "I ain't letting this piece of crap pass me", but after two miles of white knuckle riding (did I mention it was 10 PM as well?) I let him go. He was gone in two corners...

Several months back my crew & I came upon a Mini Cooper S on highway 9. As soon as he noticed we were closing in he gunned it but was quickly passed before the hairpin before 236. Passed by everyone 'cept me, that is. I just didn't have enough space to safely execute the pass. Anyway, I was on his tail through the hairpin & beyond but I have to say it was a struggle to keep up. When we got to the stop sign at 236 he pulled over. I looked over and gave him the thumbs up but was surprised to see a guy who looked like a middle-aged bank manager behind the wheel... :teeth

You think that middle aged guys don't like to go fast or something? :rolleyes

If you live long enough, you'll get to middle age too. :laughing

+ 1 You have all of eternity to "slow down and relax" after you are dead, so for now I'll get on with living :teeth

The oldest guy in our crew is 64, and he's damn quick. I'm the "baby" of the group, having went to HS in the 80s.

What struck me about the guy in the Mini Cooper was that he looked so mild mannered: pudgy, glasses, like a guy who never took risks because his insurance premiums would go through the roof. But there he was hauling ass -- and doing it well -- in his Mini...

Can't say I remember any bike vs car incidents in recent history.. none that I pay attention to anyway. I tend to avoid them and treat them like a case of Venereal-warts..

I occasionally drive my wifes VW bug and push the front end around corners. :laughing -which isn't tough to do. The front wheels feel like they're going to tuck; I wonder if that's rear suspension issues showing up in front or it's just the flippy nature of the bug?

Oh wow, this thread totally reminded me of a couple stories....:laughing

Had a dude in a brand-new (Napa Valley: happens a lot) Volvo XC90(?) (the crossover suv thing) try to catch-up/tail me coming back over Trinity rd. into Napa, dude was going try-hard mode - started cutting corners and makin' the tires howl up until I turned a corner and noticed what looked to be a goddamn pole hanging down from the power lines in the middle of the lane - right at about head level; luckily, I had no problem avoiding it - probably not the same for the dude in the Volvo though.

I continued through the next couple of turns and slowed it way down to see if this Volvo was gonna come back into view (basically, to see if this dude still had an intact windshield) - the guy never showed back up in the mirror. I assume he hit the pole and it scared the shit out of him, either slowing way down or stopping for a breather.

Yeah, that one made me think about pushing it in the hills....

There are plenty of fast cars around here......only problem is that there is an unusually high ratio of badass cars to shitty, yet rich, drivers.

Age and treachery trump youth and enthusiasm.
At least the T-shirts old farts buy say so...

I was working it fairly hard on a road here that is several miles of S's, switchbacks and hairpins when an old Subaru station wagon came out of nowhere and passed me like my pistons were welded to the jugs. I was just gob-smacked as I watched it go around a sharp right-hander and disappear. It only took a couple of seconds.

At first it scared me when I realized I didn't even get any notice it was back there. Then I realized there was probably no way he would have been "back there" long enough to even beep his horn (much less take his hands off the wheel). Fear then became a shite-eating grin, admiration, then envy/admiration.

yup -

got smoked by a BMW M5 sedan. Caught the guy at a light and laughed. Told him I felt better when I saw it was an M5. He was cool.

Faster I've ever seen a car was exiting the Caldecott Tunnel heading towards Walnut Creek. A bmw 750 exited the tunnel a couple of seconds after me and gunned it. He passed me, I chased. I gave up when I hit 125mph and wasn't close to catching him. I'm guessing he was 145mph or so.

Anyone know how fast those big sedans can go?

raced a m3 on redwood rd on my 636, and also raced a supra on my r1 on hwy 1.

the m3 was hard to lose, his dumb ass was cutting double yellow and shit...

raced an supra on r1 i got walked.

i schooled both machete & roundboy in my clapped out integra on oshaughnessy in sf. they were both laughing & amazed that i could get the cage to move that fast.

we were laughing so hard watching you drift that we forgot to throttle. :laughing

that was fucking hilarious and awesome.

for me, my roomate and I played with a wrx on our way to the barf rally last year. eventually losing him. but he was good.

got smoked by a hopped up camaro on IH-80 about 3am. topped out, the guy musta had nitro, cause all of a sudden that thing is just pulling away like I'm standing still, at about 130. :wow :laughing fun times.

I drove back on Pescadero last Saturday. Pretty sure i would have pissed off most motorcyclists if they were in front of me....
