The Netherlands plans to ban foreign visitors from pot shops in a move that opponents have labeled "tourism suicide."

The Dutch government is trying to stop drug tourism in the country, according to a recent announcement. Under the plan, the "coffee shops" that sell marijuana will become private clubs limited to adult Dutch citizens who have to show proof of ID and become a member to buy marijuana. :wtf

LOL, apparently American tourists are even more insufferable even when they are stoned.

Trip to Amsterdam crossed off of suzy's bucket list. :x

Seriously, it's a good point, politically. If you want to enjoy it legally, change your own damn laws. Pretty hypocritical to not legalize it here when people are spending thousands to go somewhere where it is legal.

at least when I went there I was still able to buy shrooms and go to the Van Gough museum, don't see any reason to ever go back now

So much for the Dutch economy. :laughing
If they REALLY wanted to cut their own throats, they'd bad tourists form the Red Light district. :laughing

Seriously, though, what is behind this ban? There must a a power play going on behind the scenes and this is a side-effect. It just doesn't make sense.

Unless it's a problem with homeless stoners hanging out around there, kind of like our Haight-Ashbury district, in which case I can see the issue.

Answer is in post #2.

I'll bet it won't make much of a difference given the number of people that approach you on the street with a not so hushed "Pot? Hash? Coke?"....

Note of advice: DO NOT rent a car in the Netherlands and drive over the border, other countries love to search cars with Dutch plates.

No more big green cookies??? :cry
