Mah mistress is back! (Aprilia out of the shop) (And now back in)

Popular Fiat's were actually pretty well built and reliable. A lot of it was owner/mechanic ignorance.

lol my first car in high school was an old 124 spider. i worked nights and weekends at the mall about 4 miles away. at least once a week on my way to or from work the thing would start coughing and chugging, and i'd have to pull over and adjust the carbs. it ran like a peach for about another 15 miles. and it blew so much oil from compression leaks that it would pool around the spark plugs so bad you could see it blowing bubbles - i had to sop it up with a sponge. it took a quart of oil for every 2 tanks of gas. i loved driving it, but it was a total piece of shit.

Although I completely believe that you had many car problems and am honestly impressed that a young lady tackled them herself, I will still have to refer you to my earlier post.

The mechanics working on this bike know what they are doing, and I know how to take care of it. This bike is a mess of factory fuckups.

This is not the fault of the dealer, or the owner, this is the fault of the factory, each and every issue is due to a fuck up with aprilia, not with the dealer or myself.

Dude, back the fuck off, you are making a bigger ass out of yourself than usual. I would suggest you shut the fuck up, and leave this thread now.

I skimmed the long breakdown post until I saw the part about a CAN wire.

With a background in industrial process control equipment, I can say with no uncertainty, FUCK THOSE THINGS.

And not in any sort of pleasurable way.

Not a big fan of CAN/Modbus/DeviceNet, especially not on a motor vehicle. :|

i wasn't ignorant. was tutored in what to do by a porsche race mechanic. i had planned a career in it, but got distracted.

If it makes you feel any better, Dave, my DR650 pooped its pulse coil mid-intersection at Van Ness and Duboce yesterday, too. Japanese bikes aren't immune to weird electrical shit, but it sounds as if yours is the extra spaghetti-wire special. :|

Also, boo on misogyny. Plenty of us fish get our hands dirty.

I agree, I hate the fact that a minor blip can disable my bike entirely. A code reset fixed the problem, then it popped up again during the next ignition cycle. I'm a tech guy, and I'm not really happy with the fact that if my bike breaks down in the middle of nowhere, I have no recourse except to call it in to a tow company and a shop. Way back when my kz750 shit the lights in san clemente, I took it apart in the parking lot of the hotel I was at, and got everything back in working order. My ignition was stolen from my drz and a screwdriver and a wirenut later I was heading home. Sometimes, simplicity is better than over-tech.

I was thinking about a brammo or something similar, and now I'm really soured to that idea.

Thing is, YOU can replace that pulse coil easily, you don't have to leave it with a shop to run wizard diagnostics and determine that a 666 dollar component freaked out (yes my ECU would cost 666 dollars to replace). I want to go full luddite and rejoin the SCA.

:laughing I was just typing up the definitions of some words and terms you and her used but re-read the last few posts and sighed. You're a weirdo or on/off drugs now. G'luck or whatever you want with the bike.

V Babe's mistress is causing him pain, I thought he liked that.

What year spyder? And did you buy it used? The only problem I ever had with a '74 was a rear-axle that I replaced with $150, and it getting stolen, twice.
I tracked that car, some. It had the following: Webers, headers, cams, ignition, Konis, cut coil-overs, custom sway bars, and other goodies. Never had an engine problem. Quick little sucker. I liked that car.

mine was a '74 also. yes, bought it quite used. it was a blast to drive, crazy fun, and overall, i loved it. but it was a fussy little bitch and no where even remotely resembling reliable. my engine was tuned punchy, but also proved extremely fragile. when i cried about it, my mechanic told me not to be too discouraged - the only thing less reliable was a ferrari.

Good thing you got the DRZ.

And of course, while the ECU is dead at this point, there's no way to know that it's the root cause. For all you know, it was fried by whatever is popping the fuses.
