Sport-touring bike opinions?

before committing to any make or model, i would first study it's online forums. you will quickly find out which bikes have what problems. i wanted a connie 14 hunnit for a long time. but once i started reading their forums and the zx14 forums i quickly discovered the valve cover oil leaks and such. turned me off to them. just a note before falling in love and the impulse buying twitch transcends through your being.

Bike specific forums is where people go for help when they have issues. Using those as your sole deciding factor is rediculous. I have well over 40,000 on my Connie in just over three years with no issues. THis is true of the majority of the Connie owners on the two major forums.

did i mention it was a sole factor? let me re read my post. NEWP don't see that written there. it is a predictor of what can happen to YOU. you don't know what you are getting into when you buy a machine that you know nothing of. the ludicrous thing would be to buy something with no information about it.

Agreed.

I'm thinking about upgrading from my 1998 ST1100 to a modern sport-touring bike and would like some opinions. The motorcycles I'm currently considering are:

  • BMW R1200RT

  • Stopped reading there. :thumbup

Why? Because I own one, therefore it's the greatest bike ever. :x

Latest Rider mag has a ST shootout worth reading.
Found that issue at B&N today. Thanks for the tip. As an added bonus, it has a separate test of the Honda F6B.

Here's how Rider rated the sport-tourers:
1. BMW K1600GT
2. BMW R1200RT
3. Triumph Trophy
4. (tie) C14, FJR

Didn't change my short list at all. The K1600 sounds like a great bike, but it's still too early in the model cycle for me to trust it. And, let's face it: $25,000 MSRP means close to $30K out the door. Not happening.

There's a dude looking to sell a 30k-mile 2005 FJR1300 for $5000 in Hayward--look him up on Craigslist.

I'm gonna have to head over to B&N to pick up that rag. I forgot all about Rider Magazine. Probably a good read.

Pssst! Here is a spy video of the new H2O-cooled Beemer GT.
