ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

BB told me to relax and be smooth. I haven't stood on the pegs much but I will try that next ride out.

Thanks guys and gals, I will definitely be there to slow you all down. :twofinger

Is anyone trucking to the Cordelia start point? I want to truck my xt out there but can't load/unload by myself..so while I know there will be people there in the morning to help, I'm not sure anyone will be there at the end of day. Let me know please & thanks :)

edit: or BrianF- maybe I can truck to wherever you're trucking to?

I've trucked to a couple different places at Berryessa. This time I'll be here:

It's a little parking area called Eticuera Creek, right before the fun stuff on Knoxville starts. I usually get there about 9:45.

Awesome, I think I stopped there on my ride last Sunday. If Lunchbox can't make it out, I'll truck to there as well.

Gwynne, hope you can make it!! :ride

Hall pass for the 11th has been secured! :party
Rebekah, I can pick you up on the way out there, if you don't mind riding in a shitty truck for 45 min or so. We could even get an early start and putt around Knoxville until the group shows up. I'm game for whatever.

I guess I had better re-mount my tail light and turn signal that got knocked off when I looped the dirty bike last weekend. :laughing

Index and middle fingers on clutch and brake handles, ring finger and pinky relaxed on the grips at all times. Less force on the front brake = less likely to lock up the front wheel. Pulling the clutch in up against your pinky and ring finger helps keep you in the friction zone and gives you excellent clutch control.

The most important thing is, even though most of these techniques feel awkward at first (usually for quite a while) the more you practice them the more it becomes second nature. You don't even need to practice in technical stuff. Even doing exercises in a parking lot helps. I will stop now. :nerd

I don't really stand up on my pegs, I just store my weight there ,if that makes sense. You need your ass to be able to move forward and back on the seat as conditions change. Just as you need to let the bike do the work, you also have to help the bike by constantly adjusting your weight front and rear, side to side.

If your legs burn and you feel like you just had abdominal surgery the next day you've done it right and now know what areas of your body need to be strengthened :teeth

This, pretty much. I am trying to work on standing more, so I can get more comfortable with it. I rarely have much weight on my seat, though. I try to grip the bike with my legs on the bumpy stuff, which helps me keep my hands light on the bars. Key word: try. :laughing

Will we be joined by Thumpy on her ATK?!???!? I hope so!

Thumpy has to run to Vacaville tomorrow or Saturday to pick up parts then spend about 4 hours on ATK. Thumpy's other half understands Thumpy's desire to attend and has agreed to help make it happen.

New guy here, will try to make it and meet Brian at the top of Berryessa. (Eticuera Creek)

I am planning to be out there in Knoxville well before the group arrives. I haven't been on one of these in awhile, but does the group usually get to the south entrance of Knoxville OHV at around 10:30-45?

Would it be a huge mistake to attempt this ride on a DRZ400SM with some street tires?

Not at all. You will still have an easier time than those on the big bikes. I can recall quite a few folks on DRZs with street tires. Watch out for big potholes/rocks...don't wanna dent those expensive rims ;)

Besides, I haven't ridden with you in awhile. It would be fun!

Hey Aaron - I'm going to review the mileage and then post up expected travel times to meet up points - will do my best to keep us on track from Cordelia...we will stop at the Eticuera Crk parking lot and then at the front of Knoxville...your job is to roundup the riders and meet us out front :teeth

Yes and no. Are you comfortable riding dirt? Folks have ridden it before on drzs w street tires, and then there is this great vid of a drz ripping along, one minute everything fine, then wammo, rider and bike on the ground :twofinger - rider was aokay:thumbup. Come out and give it a try, if it's too loosey goosey thru Knoxville then I would bail on Rieff-Rayhouse and just enjoy the twisties back to Cordelia.

That's what I was thinking and hoping! And yeah, be great to ride with you again as well! :thumbup

I'm no Villopoto but I'm comfy in dirt yeah. I like that there's an exit route if I find myself a bit beyond what I expected. Thanks for the advice gentlemen! :teeth

In reality, I bet you'll smoke me even though I have a cheater bike with knobbies. I still suck at dirt. :laughing
