Yes, it is the only state wherein a ticket will not be issued for SAFE and PRUDENT sharing, which is why preserving and not abusing this precious right is so crucial......and why those guidelines are so important to know as well.


Other states lane split (ny, r.i. For example)...but it is not legal to do so.
 
While I think the semantics are silly, I kinda get it. CHP is an enforcement agency, so it's very easy to take any "guidelines" set forth by them as pseudo-law. I know many on here even disagree with the guidelines themselves.

The guidelines should really be in the DMV moto handbook and/or the MSF, where most tips and guidelines for riding and driving are.

My worry is that this could spark more desire for legislation, which I think can only be bad for us.

Anyone who has watched School House Rock knows that CHPs are not law makers.:).
As the ticket givers however, They went out of their way to give the moto public tips- based on facts, experience and statistics- as to what is Safe and Practical and what is Deadly, Citeable, and potentially will cause us to lose our rights with a law change.
Sure, The DmV ( p.s. Also an enforcement agency ) AnD the MSF and track days and Cyclegears should all have these guidelines as brochures or fliers, but you can't pick on the CHP for going out of their way to help increase safety and awareness any more than a safety guideline on stopping to fix your flat tire.

Why not have the AMA publish them as guidelines, and have the CHP "endorse" them as best practices and provide a link from the CHP website?

Figured that guy would be an attorney (maybe admin law one), but he isn't. Who else would be so nitpicky and douchey?

Oh well. Practically, it doesn't change much. Lane sharing isn't outlawed, so it is legal. The guidelines were nice in providing a bit of official backing, but I don't see we will see any difference in ticketing.

I've been riding for 30 years and in my time I've seen law enforcement swing from, "rider in car vs bike accident, it must be the bikes fault" to "I'm fucking tired of hearing some old dumb shit say,"I didn't him, he came out of nowhere" every time I have to scrape a body off of the freeway and write a report about it.

The numbers don't line and this is the reason for the guidlines. The guys who are on the ground and deal with the public day in and day out are tired of seeing the general lack of care and concern from the general driving public. Afterall when a LEO is off duty they are forced to drive in the same shit pile as the rest of us so they see both sides of it first hand.
 
OTOH, :applause to one douchenozzle that bossed the CHP around like a 3rd-class whore. One guy.

Like I said, it's silly to go after the CHP's good intentions with the guidelines, but I see where it came from (typical CA crybaby stuff, but it needs to be addressed). The biggest downside is that it draws more unwanted attention to lanesharing in general. I'm sure there will be plenty of idiots who read that article and now assume lanesharing isn't legal now... :rolleyes
 
Honestly, I'm way more pissed off about the fact that this douchenozzle is basically running seminars about how to basically bloat our government and fuck the taxpayers than about the lane splitting guidelines.

Would be funny if a group of concerned citizens caused an, umm, disturbance at his next seminar. I'll pay the fee for anyone that's willing to sign up for his seminar and just sit their the whole time in leathers making 'brap, brap, brap, brap' noises.
