Ramp sliding on tailgate

Been having issues with my ramp sliding around on my tailgate metal to metal while loading and unloading if the ground isn't completely level.

Haven't had much luck looking online. Looking up grip tape nets me skateboard deck grip tape, and trying to find some sort of rubber grip shows me rubber wrapping tape used on tennis racket handles.

Anyone have any ideas or where to go for this? Where would I find that at Home Depot or ACE?
 
I've always used tie-downs, you already have some for the bike so nothing to buy...
 
What about spraying a dozen or so layers of plastidip onto the piece of ramp that is resting on the trailgate?

It comes off with a pretty grippy texture, the only thing i am not sure about is durability....as plastidip peels off if you rub up a corner enough to get a hold on it......but it may have enough grip just to keep the ramp in place...

If we end up going riding this weekend i can bring up some with me.. i have some half empty cans lieing around after plastidipping my trucks rims and emblems

I simply drilled two holes in the ramp; made matching holes in the tail of my van (or you can do a trucks tailgate.) & installed two 5" long bolts into the ramp (locked in place by a nut on bottom of ramp tightened nuts to ramp underside.

Forever after, just put the ramp with bolts directly into the tail of me van. The ramp never slipped again; even working in the rain or slippery conditions. Can load the bike by-myself now. If I ever sell van, I'll just weld up the two holes....:thumbup
 
^^^That's the fix-it-forever method. I have that nice 1500lb 'hump' ramp from Cycle Gear and it's never slid on me, I think because the three tangs are pretty much flat on the tailgate. I walk up & down it no problem, sometimes ride up it when I really don't feel like pushing, rock solid.
 
Foam kickboard material. Stuff enough to still supply rigidness and won't scratch your tailgate or plastic trim on it. Then strap it down like usual
 
The stuff you are looking for is called safety tape (or anti slip.) A tie down usually works fine though.

Yep..I always strap it cuz I always ride it in.
 
I've put bikes in my pickup tons of times. I use 2 ramps side-by-side, so the bike goes up the right one and I walk up the left one. I run a tie-down strap from the truck bumper up thru rungs on both ramps and then back down to the bumper in a big V, so that when I crank down the tie-down ratchet, the ramps are pulled tight against each other, the tailgate, and the ground. That way they can't move side-side or back or anywhere else.

If you're doing just one ramp then do the same thing with the ratchet strap, it might move side-side but it won't come off.
 
best thought for what you're looking for, (especially if it has 'tangs' like the trackside ramps) is the can of latex rubber for dipping tool handles, though i don't know how easy that stuff is to find anymore.

"Fix it forever" & never had a bike/ramp slip since....:thumbup
 
I bought a ramp kit that has two aluminum ends you bolt onto a 2x10 cut to the length you want. It came with 2 pins and holes drilled in the end pieces that would fit into hole you drill into the surface you plan on resting the ramp (tailgate). I used screws for a permanent fix also but i need bigger hardware because they bend kind of easily. This in conjunction with a tie down strap is ideal but I never bother.

I used 6mm long bolts, & nuts. Thought it would be too weak & they would break, but they haven't yet.....

Thanks for the ideas! I'll probably go this route so I can keep my loading and unloading quick without bolting it down. I also have two 8ft planks I use to run up, but it's dangerous when it's wet, so I want to tape anti slip onto those as well
