Tesla Model 3: End of the Internal-Combustion Engine?

To be fair I do see this number ballooning quite rapidly once the model 3s are actually out in numbers. Most places ( including existing gas stations ) already have ready access to power so it should be a relatively simple and inexpensive thing for businesses to add charging stations.

Wasn't 3000 miles, but a couple weeks ago I drove to Torrance and back. No stopping. 6.5 hours (because fuck LA traffic) each way. Couldn't have done that in a Tesla.

I don't know about you, but I couldn't have done that in any car that didn't come equipped with a relief tube.

Note to self: If ever offered a ride in Rob's car, do not touch any Gatorade bottles in the cupholders.

Meh. I must have a super bladder. Rolled through the Sonic drive thru in Gilroy and had a big ass soda finished off before I even made it to I-5. Four hours later, I'm coming through Laurel Canyon (nav rerouted me off 5 because of super congestion just past Magic Mountain), saw that I was crossing Mulholland...and seriously thought about adding another hour or two to my journey just to run The Snake.

In a mere 3.5 years, the number of Supercharger stations went from zero to 3,652.

Errrr, no. There are 617 supercharging stations in the U.S. You're quoting the number of superchargers.

Not sure what this has to do with much of anything though, as I wasn't commenting on the number of stations. I don't see them as the major stumbling block to widespread adoption of E-Vehicles anyway.

There is no stumbling block. Almost 400,000 new orders for the Model 3. In a week or two.

Difficult to see the forest with those trees in the way, eh? :laughing

Looks like Ford is ready to fully embrace e-vehicles too. :laughing

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...950-before-taxes-for-tesla-s-64th-model-x-suv

"Ford Spent $200,000 to Dissect a Limited-Edition Tesla Model X"

Ford paid $55,000 over the sticker price, just to get a Tesla Model X early.

The future is here, as OP already said. A bit extreme to say it's the end of the ICE obviously, it's not going away anytime soon.

E-vehicles are here, they work well, and getting better every new model. Still seems a bit sci-fi fantasy to realize they are actually here, mind-blowing.

I'm eager for the Ford E car to appear.. There is a Ford dealership, real close..
And I can upgrade my solar system to do all the needed charging at night..
Be fully ready for the morning. The Range would work just fine .... :teeth

Lunar charging :loco

NO, I didn't expect to have to explain how Solar works, But .....
Guess I do... During the day, ya produce the power, and charge your storage medium...
At night you draw from that medium, charging the cars battery.

It's really simple.

Do you have a 30kW-h battery?

Do you have a 30kW-h battery?

Actually closer to 60kW-h I don't think deep cycle batteries like to be fully or even half discharged on regular bases.

Plus a place to mound additional 6kW array (5 hour charge time), which is according to this is about 450 sq-ft and this particular one is 9k before tax.

Well, you'd spend more on power storage than you would on the car if you expect to charge an EV off the grid. If you can do that then yes, you can have anything you want.

What You have to spend, and what I have to spend, are two different things...

Yeah, my thing is I have to be able to drive to San Diego without stopping for a few hours to recharge. I almost always fly these days, but some chicks like to road trip, so I need the option.
