Why should they be responsible for arranging a ride home for you? The back of your parking ticket is also a contract that limits their liability, you park there at your own risk, car or bike.
It may have been a courteous gesture for them to hail a can for you or something, but did you want the guy behind the counter to jump in his car and drove you home?
I asked hotel staff beforehand if they had security monitoring their parking lot. They said they have 24/7 security and their lot is very safe. In actuality, their security guard is the shuttle driver, and when security is not shuttling folks to the airport, he is lounging in the lobby.
Also asked if I could park my bike in an area visible to the front desk at all times. The staff I left my bike with said I need to park it in a spot around the corner. The staff I met upon returning were confused because they said motorcycles regularly park in the area I initially requested.
Basically, I feel like they did not meet their obligations, and fine print isn't everything. They still have responsibilities and are not free to act negligently. This probably doesn't count as negligence, but they sure didn't fulfill their obligations to provide security. Any act or gesture of assistance to my situation would have been much appreciated, but the hotel manager pretty much viewed the situation as you do.
Sorry that your bike got taken. But this thread is about parking at SJC. Not hotel parking almost a mile away from airport property.
This hotel offers long-term, low cost parking for people flying out of SJC, even for non-guests, including free shuttle to the airport. Stolen motorcycles aside, parking at nearby hotels and getting a ride on their free shuttle service is actually quite convenient, and sometimes less expensive than the Anza or EZpark lots. One place I would recommend is Aloft Hotel in Milbrae when flying out of SFO. Super cheap, convenient, and safe. Unless you don't mind paying $15-30 for long term parking at SJC, these are good alternatives. Here:
