ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

Well I decided to ride up there yesterday and it was pretty awesome. I was alone and had a nearly dead cell phone, and didn't tell anyone where I was going, so I didn't venture the length of Reiff. At the turn off from Knoxville rd there was a sign that said "Gate closed ahead". Well I rode 2 miles in from knoxville and never saw a gate? Is it beyond my turn around point?

Looks like you were just short of the gate by 1/4 mile or so.

Yes, I did ride Devilhead for a poke. Same situation though. Didn't want to get too involved while solo and I hadn't let anyone know where I was going to be.

So the gate is passable even when closed is this correct?
 
The gate is at the "top" of the hill. The sign is not always accurate. There is a way around the left side of the gate but it's a bit dicey and I've not given it a try - when the gate is locked the mud is usually so epic that it's not even worth the ride IMHO.
 
I learned of this ride in this forum, thanks! Did Reiff about a mile past the gate, got worried about losing light before making it out the other end riding solo, so I turned around and did the more forgiving Devilhead. Did this on Dec 30th and not much mud. Met one other person out there, he was on a KLR. Wanna go back and check out jeep rd.

Were you there on Friday the 30th? Are you the guy on the KLR I met near the start of Devilhead?
 
Maddie, yes I was riding there on the 30th. The only other person I saw on Devilhead was a pickup truck that waved me through the big puddle ahead of him. And the only other bike I saw near there was a blue BMW.

Dudes. I need lots of road suggestions! We went to 16>20 to some fire roads on Sunday and ended up in snow and some decent river crossings and finally made it to Bartlett springs road in north Clearlake.

New to adv riding but not new to riding.

Riding an Africa twin

Anyone know of a decent site with decent maps or preset google maps for a nice jaunt?

We did about 240 miles on Sunday. Didn't see to many folks out
