The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

I been watching CFL, last night's game between Winnipeg and Montreal was pretty entertaining.

I like that their refs can review "Roughing the Passer" calls, they reversed a call last night where the QB pretty much flopped, but got a flag.

Ajayi down with concussion and Tannehill hobbled with an injury from scrambling out of the pocket.

looks like the Dolphins are already in mid-season form!

Just saw the video of Tannehill.

Non contact knee injury is a bad sign.

For some reason this tickled me good...

Honestly, you would have been better off keeping Jim Tomsula around. You would have lost, but at least everyone in the stadium would get a free bag of bread crusts to feed the pigeons on the way out.

Eh I think they could have done a lot better than rehash Harbaugh, York, and Kaepernick.

That's like C+ or B- shit talking at best.

Seriously though, most Niner fans don't even know what is happening with the team beyond those guys. I know a handful of "The Faithful," who were telling me at a bar the other night that they don't even know any starters right now other than Bowman, because they just can't watch this shit.

Then they're not "Faithful"

Lynch and Shanahan have totally overhauled the roster in one offseason. They've gone from one of the oldest teams in the league to one of the youngest and actually have players with upside and potential.

:dunno I'm not a Niner, I didn't say it.

I know that.

Point being, if one were "faithful" they'd be paying attention to the offseason.

hey, the 9ers have to start somewhere. a good solid foundation can be forged with one good draft. on paper, I think they had a really solid one. I think Thomas is going to be a force. Dumervil is a bit of a head-scratcher, but maybe he could be a veteran presence that the team would rally around. Not a lot going on for their offense, but that's where Kyle is supposed to figure something out. They'll need to find a way to score at least 17 or 20, which they may do a few times. still, it's a good start.

Or... now hear me out.... maybe you take this way too seriously? :dunno

i stopped listening after "Or" :twofinger

it's a fair point you raise but even casual Niner fans should be able to name Staley, Ellington (well.... : |), Bowman, Brock (uuhhh.... : |) and Hyde. Maybe even Armistad and Buckner given all their hype the last two years.

So for a person to say they're a fan of the team but not even have minor conversational knowledge of the team is pretty disingenuous.

unless the bar for being a "Faithful" fan is remembering the team colors and that Bill Walsh was the greatest? :party

I appreciate the enthusiasm. Please, I beg you, dont use these two words together and in this context? It is the most overused, meaningless bit of blabjargon associated with sports today.

I'm happy with the direction.
We still have no quarterback. The Deadspin was spot on with that.
The D performance is likely to see the most improvement. Given where we ended last year that's not surprising. What would be surprising is if the D ended up back in the top ten for the year. I'm thinking that's going to happen. It's a simpler system, younger players, and defenses seem to come together faster than offenses because D is all about keys and reaction. It's not generally super tricky and timing isn't everything.

The offense is the big question mark. I don't blame 9er fans for putting their attention on hold. It's the third system in three years. The line looks like it's sorting out. There still isn't an HoF QB under center (after having one there for two decades it's still hard to accept anything less) so the offense is going to have fits and starts. Maybe KS will emerge as a great play caller. Maybe the Deadspin article nailed him to. I just won't know until I see them play. Will get that soon enough. And, hey, so what if I don't know the roster yet? If they suck again this year I will learn the names of the folks I think are good throughout the season and will have saved the mental storage for next year's crop that replaces the stinkers. :dunno:thumbup
