The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

You know, they won like hell with Matt Cassell before Gronk was on the team.

Gronk should come play wi' the Raiders. They need somebody who can actually hold onto the football post-catch. His mini-bus will fit right in in Vegas, too.

PS. About Foles. I been thinking about this since Sunday. To me, Foles might be a bit like Kaepernick. Once the rest of the league figures out his tendencies, he's done. So what seems like a really great under-appreciated talent is someone people didn't bother to figure out this year. That is the only way I can wrap my brain around him being a back-up, that he has talent limitations not obvious to me, but obvious to pros. He looked great, fearless and capable on Sunday. Why is he a backup?

But....Foles won the SB and he had shown a high level of QB play from the pocket in a prior season. :dunno

As far as pocket presence, accuracy, and reading I see Foles miles ahead of Kap. About the only thing Kap has on Foles is speed, and footballs will always fly faster than a person can run.

Well, more importantly, He won like Hell in Philly and went to the bro bowl BEFORE this recent run with Philly. The Rams were clearly a bad fit and he won the only game he started afterwards with the Chiefs if I remember right. I mainly remember I was scared as hell of him when he took over for Mike Vick, because it seemed like they had a real QB for the first time in YEARS. I laughed my ass off when they traded for Bradford, but Kelly seemed determined to destroy his team. I still think Chip Kelly kicking all the offensive talent off the Eagles was some how a secret plot paid for by Jerry Jones. :laughing

Dude, it was uncanny how well Kelly flushed the Shitbirds down the drain.

Except it kind of back-fired don't you think?

He ended up making room for what Philly is now. :dunno

Yeah its all hindsight and speculation now. It just sucked to watch a team that had weapons and potential get slammed into the side of a mountain by a goofball coach. Live and learn..

The things that Foles has going for him is accuracy, good/quick decision making, and that he's done it on the grandest of stage. Duder had >70% completion % through the playoff run. I heard only two other qbs have done that: Montana and Elway. dayum.

I'd guess Lurie will be a cool dude and ask what Foles wants in the context of Wentz being the #1. If he wants to stay in Philly, I guess they'd try to make that happen. If he wants to leave immediately to get acclimated to his new team, they'd do that too.

Any way this works out seems to be a good thing for Philly.

Could have been worse...they could have held onto him for another two years like they did with Kotite. :dunno

Didn't Kelly get rid of McCoy and DeSean Jackson? That had to improve the locker room. :laughing

But yeah, Kelly sucked the life out of franchises.

This is how I remember it felt as a fan when Kelly became the coach. There were a lot of WTF? moments and then you crossed your fingers and hoped he was a genius. He wasn't.

I knew I'd run the risk of this, but I don't mean he played LIKE him. What I mean is that many were falsely buoyed by his successes until the rest of the league figured out how to stuff him. Kaepernick got em to the SB but he had a lot of exciting games where things were clicking in.

Then a few years later, everybody is saying how crappy he is.

What I mean is what I mean: that once somebody is really studied the real first-rate talent will still survive and flourish. I would love to think Foles is just great and we all missed him. BUt that's just not what the rest of the league felt all along. Who is wrong, despite this win? The guy just about quit playing. That's how many people believed in his ability

there's something beautiful with having two active NFL threads going on at once...in the offseason. 'Murica

I get it. I just find the comparison to be miles apart. It wasn’t just a question of people giving up in him. He gave up on himself. I agree it’s possible that Kap has given up on himself as well. I dunno. I would love to eat a big crow pie to see Kap come back and be the QB everybody wanted him to be. I just don’t think it will happen. I’ve been plenty wrong before. I didn’t think Smith would ever amount to anything either.

You ain't wrong. They figured out that Kaep is flustered by certain reads being denied. I heard one of the on-air guys describe it and illustrate it with video.

I think Kaepernick is a guy who never got the really good training from a top football school and made it on his athletic ability but just doesn't have enough dimension that he can't be staunched. Not enough technique. I can relate as a musician because I never had a very good teachers and it really limited me compared to others. It's a slow, painful realization, and is very humbling. You can make it to a certain point, then you just can't compete.

I'd love to think Foles is the greatest underappreciated one. He's super-lovable and seems very deserving.

Jimmy G highest paid player in NFL ever per contract $137mil over 5 years, $74 guaranteed

For now at least. Kirk Cousins, Cam, Aaron Rogers deals are coming up.

I thought this was funny. Kinda how I imagine El-Dirty would have watched the game...
