Full throttle till I see god, then Brake
I am the first to admit I am a very aggressive rider. But even with the type of street riding that I do I still get around 15k miles out of a quality o’ring chain.
Now, when I literally destroy a chain in less than 1,400 miles with a 35hp motorcycle on the street I have to question WTF happened.
So I did and sent the chain to D.I.D and here is the reply I got.

We received the chain and sprocket that you sent us for inspection. We did
find that this is indeed a counterfeit chain as we do not make a gold 520V
chain. We are in the process of contacting the seller on ebay to stop
selling these chains. If you have any further questions,
please let me know.

Thank you.

Have a nice day!

These chains are also on Amazon and other places. Here are photos of who I bought the chain from, what the chain looks like new and after I put my hard 1,400 miles on it.

The $49 DID o-ring chain price point could/should have been a signal that something was fishy.

Better to buy mission critical motorcycle parts from a motorcycle store. Not the first time someone has bought counterfeit bunk on Fleabay.

I got caught out by a online seller of fake Klim gear(CC covered it). Now I'm really careful of who I buy from.

I hope you left feedback for the seller indicating that they're selling counterfeit stuff. Maybe prevent a few others from falling for the same too good to be true price.

I couldn't, it had been 3 months. I did not put the chain on immediately after I bought it. If you go to their site they have sold close to 300 of these chains.

Most riders are posers and don't ride their bikes as many miles as I do so the chain may last them a couple years.

D.I.D says in the response to me that they are going to shut them down.

And two more resellers will pop up in it's place, unfortunately.

they might be able to shut them down, but they'll just reopen under a new name

I've recently ordered all of my chain stuff from sprocketcenter.com and I sure hope they go through reputable channels to acquire their parts

More and more I am buying directly from the manufacturer if they have a website store. Usually the only penalty is having to pay shipping, which most retailers include free once you cross a pretty low threshold. Thanks for letting us know.

Hope karma catches up with the sh!theads!

Nice catch and great psa. :thumbup

About a decade ago, there was serious concern that some knock off crank bearings had made their way into the Husqvarna OEM supply chain.

With the potentially lethal consequences of a faulty chain, these resellers should face serious criminal charges.

Shutting them down isn't enough. This is a mission-critical part, as stated above, and a bad break leads to dire consequences often enough that this is going to get someone killed. They're shipping from Dallas, so they're domestically prosecutable: this isn't like Chinese sellers who have zero risk and zero regrets for selling dangerous/deadly products to US customers.

I read the ebay ad. they mention did once, and have that pic, but state it is unbranded...

shady yes, but buyer beware

Good chains are 100 bucks or more and worth the money.

This. You get what you pay for. I buy top of the line for reason. Cheap chains don't last.

And even the good manufacturers make different quality chains. The cheap ones are cheap, the expensive ones aren't. If you pay $50 for a chain, you got a $50 chain.
