Looks fun.

Lots of great riding up north.

Is this for tent camping or can you bring an RV or trailer? Thanks.

I can’t keep up with anyone ... :facepalm:laughing

can’t imagine they don’t or won’t give people some idea where the tracks go on a paper map, if only just for backup safety, if a rider had their own paper map with them?

don’t GPSs run out of battery or get lost or smashed or otherwise let you down sometimes?

May might work for me and would probably be fun to learn about that part of the world other than at the Weaverville BARF Rally ... :ride

also might give me an excuse, finally, to learn if my smartphone would
work as a GPS, or at least display .GPX files ... :dunno

John the smartphone apps like Gaia and Avenza are relative simple to work. I cant make a garmin function to save my life, but I can make Gaia and Avenza work on my phone. :thumbup

that would be a pretty good 2022 goal for me, to get Gaia and/or Avenza loaded on the phone and learn to use them ... :thumbup

always nice for me to have some event on the calendar that gives me an excuse to ride north through Mendo NF for a couple days to get there ... :laughing:ride

Sounds like fun if I can muster up the nerve / time to ride the DRZ up and back. I've used Google's MyMaps to upload GPX files. It won't do turn by turn directions, basically a digital version of a paper map with the ability to zoom in on the little dot that tells you where you are in location to the route. Only got myself lost once on the CABDR with this setup, but in my defense the route looked more like a dry wash than a road at the point I crossed it...

Butler northern California map could be used to navigate most the routes, however in order to get the detail close enough to follow for the dirt routes you would need many many pages printed. It is necessary to have GPS navigation or follow someone who does for the dirt routes. If you plan to run the pavement only route than a map should be fine.

Speaker announced

Joey Evans is our Keynote speaker. Author of Para to Dakar, Dakar finisher, Africa Eco race finisher.

"Joey Evans inspired people across the world when he pulled off a near impossible dream, dragging his battered motorbike along with his broken body over the finish line of the 9000km Dakar Rally. Finishing the longest, most gruelling and dangerous offroad race in the world, was the dramatic end to his extraordinary journey after breaking his back and being paralysed 10 years earlier"
