So, I just filled up my Jeep, which was very, very low, and after using my credit card, the pump cut off at an even $100.00.

The nozzle didn't click, it just stopped. I was pretty close to full, and, mind, I've never dropped $100 on gas, but I was curious if this was a common thing that stations limit the CC pump transactions to $100.

When I had my ski boat I ran into quite a few pumps that shut me off at $80.
That was about 10 years ago so adjusting for inflation the $100 doesn't surprise me. Filling up the truck and boat required multiple transactions. Pain in the ass.

Yeah, that's normal. Sometimes it's $100, sometimes its $80. You finish the transaction and do it again until the tank is full.

I did this at pretty much every fuel stop when driving the moving truck cross country.

Mine always shuts off at the 5 dollar mark.

I have to go in and yell at the clerk who'll then tell me I gave him 4.59 and a squished gumball.

You didn't say which brand of credit card you used. Visa has a limit on the amount they will reimburse a gas station for fraudulent purchases, called a pump limit. So the gas station set the limit of the purchase to the pump limit. You can just do a second transaction. What's even more annoying is when a gas station puts a hold on the funds so if they set their hold limit at $80 they can hold that full amount for hours even if you only bought $10 of gas. I've had my Visa deactivated for fraud twice because gas stations put $80 holds on my Visa but my buying pattern is either ~$10 or ~$50. The problem was they didn't release the holds. This hold limit was for pre-paid debit cards but has worked it's way in to credit cards over the last few years.

it is annoying and isn't consistent.

costco had never shut me off for dollar amount. all the name brand pumps have a limit at the pump. I've heaed that going in to the cashier and paying in person removes the restriction since pay at pump is easier to fraudulently use a stolen card or somesuch. :shrug

going in to the cashier is a bigger hassle than filling up again in a few days....usually

Sounds like a first world personal problem when you don't really even need a jeep. You should taking public transit or driving a hybrid or Tesla instead of the bro dozer....... that's your problem, not what the pump stops at.

JK, someone was giving shit for driving pick up trucks to work in another thread. You're lucky though, my stations usually shut off at $95, or 2/3 of a tank for my truck.

The Costco pumps where I'm at in Oregon are set at $100.00 for debit cards, and $150.00 for credit cards. Some people have lower limit presets from their banks though, and I've seen the pumps only allow $50.00.

Hit the hundo today. Filled the truck up a bit over 1/2 way. :facepalm

i was hitting the $100 stop in 2005 when gas was $4/gallon with a 5.4L F150 with 3.73s.

glad my tacoma now is only $75 for fillup.

I justify the car loan payment on my Civic by keeping the miles off of my truck.
Keeps maintenance bills down and fuel bills way down.

Yeah, I have seen this before when gas prices were through the roof.

33 gal diesel tank gets to about 25-28gal before the first swipe runs out. I swipe a second card while holding the little door on the pump closed and finish filling if I need it 100% full. Usually I just plan to fill at 1/4 tank and that obviates the issue.

My '67 Ford has 19 gallons behind the seat and 22 gallons under the bed. That always stings when I top it off.

My 2004 Ford has a 37 gallon tank and gets around 15MPG

My 2010 Range Rover has a 27 gallon tank, requires Premium, and gets around 12MPG

I make terrible life choices :laughing

I bet your Rover would be just fine on the cheap gas. The worst that would happen is the computer would relearn the timing curve.

IDK, sometimes it pings a bit even on 91. Plus I want all 510hp :toothless

Yeah, I'd want all the horse powers too.

My Lexus pings on all the octanes since I bought it. The interior is falling apart, it shifts funny and uses oil at a ridiculous rate, about a quart every 1000-1500 miles (which Lexus has said "is normal). It'll be the last one I buy. Fuck that car.:thumbdown. It's been plagued with issues since I bought it.

With Toyota's rotting frame issues, melting interiors, oil burning engines, paint issues, etc, I'll never own another Toyota product. My mom had a 98 GS300 that always seemed to have issues when she had it too. The brake pedal never wanted to come all the way back up, and it was going to be like $2600 to fix it.
