Hello,

Don't know too much about AMA, but can someone explain to me why Buell gets to run a 1125cc motorcycle against 600's. Watching AMA the Buell just seems to overpower the 600's and my first impression is because it is almost twice the cc's, but there has too be a reason why this is. Please explain if you know why?

Thanks,

Same reason ducati runs 1198cc's verse 1000cc- Japanese bikes.

2 cylinders vs 4.

I believe the Buell has other disadvantages to even it out even more such as weight being added to the bike.

WSBK is less than a 200cc difference. AMA Superbike is less than 100cc difference. They 1125 has over a 500cc advantage/difference over the 600. The Geico Buell team gets all excited for winning, but it seems that they are riding out of their class, so their victory is kind of shallow.

Not to mention they are allowed to make modifications no one else can, and use bikes which are not street legal or available to the public. They have been on camera many times violating rules (like in the daytona race where the rider was working on the bike in the pits right in front of an official, a big no-no) but because DMG is ran my NASCAR harley fucking idiots, they have ruined the american road racing championship, and we are the laughing stoick of the world

Because Harley Davidson hired a bunch of hookers to give blowjobs to the staff of DMG.

Because Buells suck ass!!:cool
very insightful

Have you watched a AMA/DMG rae this year? sure there is some controversy, but its also some of the best racing out there this year.

Pretty simple actually, the 600 was designed for racing (basically a racebike with lights & turn signals). A highly developed platform with years of race experience at national and international levels.

The 1125 is a streetbike that was not designed as a "track first" machine, and while it enjoys a healthy power advantage, it has the disadvantage of being out of its element on the racetrack compared to the uber-developed 600. Especially when the razor-sharp 600's carve up the 1125 in the tight stuff. Seems like the 600's have won a lot of races and pole positions this year....

Aprilia is allowed to race its 1000cc V-twin in this class too. Makes for interesting racing to have all these different formulas thrown in the blender to see what happens. The racing in this class has been f'ing brilliant this season, edge-of-the-seat stuff. :thumbup

Nope, both WSBK and AMA Superbike have a 1200cc limit for twins, 1000cc limit for fours. The Ducati 1098R actually has a 1199cc engine in it, the 1098 and 1098S had a 1099cc engine in them.

Yes! I do like the spec tire and fuel rule to help privateers be more competitive. They 1125 is a blatant favoritism to Harley inthe 600 class.

very insightful

I will not watch racing where the promoters show a willful disregard for rider safety.

Very True, but cardenas has been crashing just trying to keep up with Eslick. On the strait-aways the Buell pulls away like everyone is standing still, which is clear to me anyway the shear power difference between the two bikes. Cardenas crashed out today just trying to keep-up.

Side Bar:
did anyone notice how empty the stands were?
Maladin & Hacking refused to race because of the track?
Kanas? I didn't know thay had a race track.

cardenas gsxr600 7 wins
eslick 1125r 6 wins
no other buell in the top 10 in points and no other buell on the podium this year except eslick

Pegram called his bike a 1098 today when thanking his team. Didn't realize it was a 1199. My mistake.

agreed the buell has quite a bit more power but it is 25-30lbs heavier and does suck on the brakes.
I guess i'm just trying to say it's neat to see something different do well, a field full of 4 cylinders just wouldn't be as exciting to watch

I can see your point; I just hate seeing Buell gloat over such an obvious advantage.

When I use to build Porsche Race Cars we consistantly got beat by BMW's because they had way less restrictions (tires, weight & engine mods) because they were considered sedans, even the M3's. Everyone in the know, knew it was bullshit... come on, an M3 a sedan, thats like calling a Twin Turbo Porsche a VW Glof. I hope as the years progress DMG makes the proper changes to make a more even playing field like the car racing scene had to do because they lost too many competitors because of the unfair rule advantage to BMW.

aw come on guys! its the american way!! its only cheating if you get caught so cheat your ass off and while youre at it put your integrity up for sale. you won't be needing it where you're going anyway. and when people question you throw the rule book at them!!! it worked for cheney, rumsfeld, o'reilly, condolezza, mcain, palin, and just about every other old rich horny white guy in history. why not racing? i mean hell they're not even calling it racing anymore its a "show" according to Al "assclown" ludington. [/rant]

how bike works in handling department should never be used to make class rules, they are allowed to change suspension. if their chassis sucks they can always come out with new one next year with new model. engine performance is what should be looked at when making rules.
