15,000 miles trip on 50cc's. Stuck in Peru!

Nothing admirable about taking only part of the statement. :hand
I left out the parts that you made up. Who says they didn't research? Its called a road trip, unexpected shit happens. Hell, you could expertly plan a trip to the tip of South America flying first class and you'd still run into some surprises.
Its amazing anyone would choose to cluck like a fussy mother hen about these guys. :confused

Wow...thats a crazy road trip. I have to give respect to these guys. I think they did as much planning as possible given the adventure that they were planning to partake in. And we all know shit happens and I'm sure alot of shit happened going across a dozen 3rd World countries.

I'm sending them $20 because what they did took balls and I admire the courage to do something like that. Hopefully one day I can go on my own adventure: bike across China and maybe, just maybe, the world will become peaceful enough for me to go across Euroasia.

honestly, sounds like some serious piss-poor planning for a venture of that magnitude. to have to resort to soliciting donations from strangers in order to attempt to finish a trip, is pretty silly.

Sounds like the adventure of a lifetime, but not something I'd contribute to after the fact.

Now, if they'd solicited support beforehand, and actually had a purpose for it, such as recognition/fund raising for a charity, then I'd be all over it.

Right now, it seems like a couple of slackers got their ass in ringers and want to be bailed out.

They're big boys, they should be able to find a way out of it.

Wow, that's something...the craziest thing I ever did was ride my BMX (bicycle) from Oakland to San Jose with a bunch of crazy friends. It took about 12 hours because we got lost acouple of times.

FWIW

going out to do such a "grandious" adventure as cross south america mostly requires having lots of street smarts, intuition, and a gnack for surviving. Sadly, it is something most people who do those trips are surely lacking.

In no means do i belittle their enthusiasm and courage to do such adventure, yet it seems they grossly misjudged the situation. I was born and raised in Peru, and will admit, its a great place, but the chance of something going very wrong, and getting little help (specially if you are foreigner) is much higher, than what most are used to.

That's pretty cool, credit where credit is due. As for the critics, it makes me wonder how many have ever actually really *travelled* overseas, and I don't mean the pampered package type.

All plans go out the window once you cross the border.

I've been to South America twice and it's a great adventure, but there are places you definitely want to avoid and there are things that you want to do before going like getting shots for things like Yellow Fever.

So far the have been robbed, arrested, stranded, arrested, blown 4 piston rings, arrested....

This doesn't sound like they knew what they were in for. One mistake that alot of young people traveling around the world make is to think that the rest of the world is as safe as our own country which can be a fatal error.

5.00 sent, I thought i was cool riding a new GPZ 305 from Santa Monica to Concord and back.
HUGE adventure.

I had a 83' GPz305...never met anyone else who had one. Gotta love that belt drive! Mine could even lay waste to the mighty Ninja 250.

When they get back to SF, well IF they get back to SF, I'll buy them a beer at Benders, or I'll sneak it out to them as they're prolly not 21 yet. Great Adventure. They should write a book about it and try to recoup some of that money. Two wheels is always better than four. Lots of cute girls in the creatures of the loin as well.

Do none of you remember? These are the same guys that showed up and threatened BARF members a couple of months back ;D Christ. Claimed the "gang" would lay the smack down if I remember correctly...

hope they documented it like "long way round"

long way round did not really get robbed, so their moped story would be quite interesting!

Hey- 100MPG:

If you send them money either get travelers checks or a pre-paid visa- cash is only gonna get them into more shit.

Some of you guys are just plain grumpy old men. Planning or no planning, it is one hell of an adventure. Give them that.

It doesn't take a crossing of the border to get "robbed, arrested, stranded, blown 4 piston rings, ..." It can happen to anyone, anywhere in the US too. Get off of it, man. It's pointless. It is only an adventure when things don't go as planned... Otherwise, it's just a tour.

They are asking for a little monetary help. Don't feel like helping? Don't. Nobody would feel any different about you. At the end of the day, you could only whish you had done something as epic as that when you were young and full of piss and vinegar. If two-wheeling is in your blood, it would a lie to say otherwise.

threatened :wtf are you serious?? i was there and it was a joke, or they were a joke. either way i personally wasn't threatened by them. even if they would have verbally threatened me i'm not sure i would have actually felt threatened.

Actually, they did get robbed. :twofinger :teeth

Poor planning? If you knew the story of Yarets...

http://www.yarets.com/index_eng.html

Shit happens when you are traveling far away from home. Many times, gestures of kindness, large or small, from those you encounter on the road are the only things to get you through.

not exactly. it was a meeting that started on the wrong foot. i know, i was the main one involved that is on barf.

but as far as the trip is concernd, i think that the stupid bravado they show is cool.

but i think the planning was weak, i have been to many central and south american countries and i know that wierd things happen. but many of these things are readily expected and actually common place out there. next time there should be a lot better planning.

hope those two guys the best.
