1989 Honda GB500 Tourist Trophy for sale.
Meticulously maintained. 23k miles. $5800 firm - Dropped form $6500 on October 2nd.
An air cooled single cylinder factory café racer from Honda (yes, Honda made them before they were hipster-cool). The GB500 Tourist Trophy follows the design cues of the Norton Manx or the BSA Gold Star racing bikes of the 1930s to 1960s but, uses technology 50 years more advanced than what inspired it. Nortons and BSAs are beautiful machines, but you learn to ride and maintain them in their own special ways. In comparison, this bike is a no brainer, with modern Honda reliability, just kick start and go! The motor comes right out of the XL600 with plenty of parts available on the market and the potential to add a few more CCs with little effort. It’s a smiles-per-hour type of bike delivering every time I ride it. That’s not even counting the entertainment coming from now familiar phrases such as “that’s a Honda!!!???”, “it came like that from the factory!!??”, “I thought those were gray market”, etc.
This one is mostly stock with the exception of Supertrapp slip-on exhaust and a new front brake rotor. The front brake master was swapped with an R1 assembly and matched to a stainless steel braided line for better feel. Front pads are HH which provide better feel and reduce heat induced fading. Bridgestone Lasertec tires on manufacturer’s size – some people miss to realize that a bike is designed as a system by engineers with extensive experience in motorcycle design and technology. The bike is user friendly, stable and predictable. Start easily with one or two kicks and has a working starter motor -if you prefer to use it.
Honda has plenty of cash to throw around and test the market, see what sticks so to speak. Over the years there have been a couple of models like this one; the GB500 was sold in the US market for only two years and became an instant collectible. It’s a rare and special bike, even the guys at my local Honda dealer frequently look at me with a puzzled face “you mean CB?”, “..and you said that’s a Honda? …are you sure that’s a Honda?”
I have had this bike for about 8 years and taken great care of it as I do with all my bikes. Always garage kept with regular oil changes and part upgrades over time. I originally bought for my wife to ride but she only rode it a couple of times. It’s time to sell this bike and make room for something for me.
