Hi

Am curious how desirable is a 1999 Duc 900SS with 28K miles is owned by an engineer?

Anyone in the know of this kind of thing?

thanks

WW

If I were looking for a 900SS, it would be 1997 or older. Was it 1998 when they change the body or 1999? I never liked how they changed it. In any case, the lettering on the bike changed after 1997. And the SS is definitely more desirable than the SP.

When I still owned my 1993 888 SPO, I was waiting for it to increase in value and it never did. But at least I sold it for the same price that I paid for it. I'm pretty sure that those have gone up in value, although unsure if it kept up with inflation or not. It was a beautiful bike, but I was afraid to ride it as it was designed to be ridden, because there were no parts available for it if it got scraped up. Finally sold that one to a guy who wanted to park it next to his Ferrari.

I think I enjoy my current rides much more because I don't care if they get scratched up and I don't care how well they hold value.

Desirable is dependent on condition and finding the right buyer.
Some of them are dirt cheap, but they haven't really crossed over into "super collectible" status

If you have a minty, rare condition example, I would reach out to bring a trailer to get the broadest collector market of buyers.

That's also a good place to check past sales of that model for an idea what they can go for in various condition

Are you cross-shopping air-cooled Monsters? Or do you want clip-ons/rear sets/fairing set up?

Just find somebody who used to masturbate over images of the 1999 Ducati 900SS when they were younger and now have the means to buy one. :laughing

Sounds like you own one and are thinking of selling it? If so, don't mean to pick on your moto .... but ...

that had the newer bodywork and many found it not so attractive. Also the ergos are pretty aggressive (low bars, high foot pegs) but the motor is really fairly mellow. The Yamaha R1 came out in 1998 so if someone wanted a sports bike, way leaned over, high pegs, they wanted a bunch of performance out of it too like the R1 & R6 & others like that.

Then add that it has carbs and not fuel injection, and the irrational fear people have with the belts and desmo valve adjustments ... and the stiff clutch pull and the dry grabby clutch ... and people would think "a 27 year old Ducati with 28K miles on it?" ... so you are narrowing down "who is going to buy it".

Some older guy might have some fond memories of that era they want to relive? But a newer rider? Nope. Just some guy with $4000 wanting a motorcycle? Nope. Even a Ducati fan boy would not want that generation SS.

But if if looks great, has some decent mods, and you don't want too much for it ... you might find an interested party. (Again, sorry for the view point a seller might not want to hear)

I had a ‘95 900 SS -CR that had less fairings so you could see the beautiful frame. I just followed and passed one coming back from the races last weekend on McKean road. Great to look at and listen to, and not as unreliable as the more high performance 916. Probably mot worth much. The brakes, handling and stretched out ergonomics aren’t so great. The used bike market is soft.
