Ok, I'm going to try to explain whats happening. I have 2007 gsxr 600 with about 18,000 miles stock except chain & sprockets -1+3. I was riding yesterday and hit second gear ,really on it , shifts fine so i go into third and when i get to 12k rpm my bike kind of jerks and cuts out like its redlining. Im kind of puzzled thinking maybe i wasn't paying attention to the rpms. I try it again and there was no problem. I continue riding and then it happens again in third gear about 14K rpms . I try to shift 4th and its still cutting out, jerking, feeling like the chain is bound up or the bike is redlining or something. I rode the rest of the ride and this happened a few more times. It seems to happen when I'm really pushing hard. Some people said it sounded like my clutch is going out and others say it sounds like an electrical problem. I have know clue. Anybody know what it could be?

Is your exhaust control valve actuator connected? It could be that. All you need to do is disconnect the cables. Ride the bike as is and see if it makes a difference.

My friend had a similar problem where he was constricted to lower RPMs after opening up the valve it rode fine.

Its still connected. I actually just heard of this a few days ago for the first time.
I was told to take the seat off and take the cables off the pulley/rails or whatever its called. Wasn't sure exactly what to do so I didn't mess with it.
I will definitely try it and see what happens.

if the chain and sprockets are ok (sprockets are in good shape, not worn teeth?), my vote is clutch is slipping

Thank you. That's a lot more then what was explained to me. I will try this with in the next two days and post up the results.

I did a 525 conversion about 3k miles ago and have serviced chain frequently.Still looks good. Would the clutch affect the ride even if i'm not shifting?

yup, if it is slipping it will disengage when enough power (high rpms) is applied. the clutch connects the power from the engine to the rear, if it slips in and out, the power slips in and out. Hard launches, bad shifts, and wheelies will further accelerate the clutch's wear

One other extreme scenerio is the shift forks/dogs are worn and slipping out when reved up. It does happen, especially if you are banging gears

Well if the engine is actually "cutting out" I would have to say its not the clutch and is the power valve or an electrical problem. Each time you turn the ignition on the power valve cycles, this would tell you if it is functioning but doesn't tell you its functioning properly. I would verify that it functions ,if it does then disconnect the cables, make sure it is open and ride the bike.
If the problem persists look elsewhere. If the clutch was slipping your revs would go up.The bike wouldn't be jerky or cut out.
Does the bike ever do this at lower RPM's ?

The only time i think it happened in a low rpm is when i tried to up shift as the problem was happening. It continued into the next gear for a brief second.

Did you get this problem resolved? if so some details please.

It ended up being my kick stand. It was bouncing down on the ruff roads a little bit and making my bike cut out. i need a new stiff spring to keep it up tight.
