I just bought a Ducati last month, traded in my old bike and paid cash for the balance of it OTD. When I was turned over to the 'paperwork guy" to finalize it all, they tried hard to push two things on me.
One was a $2,300.00 no pay maintenance svc package, and the other was an extended warranty out to 5 years for about $800.00.
It comes with a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty which, is pretty good compared to most bikes at 1-year.
I chose neither one. I would probably have picked the 3 year extended warranty if I hadn't spent all my money on the bike. They offered me a payment plan on both items but being how I hate payments, I declined.
Most consumer advocate organizations I think, recommend NOT purchasing extended warranties on vehicles as on the average, they don't pay off in the long-run, meaning that, you never have the need to use them.
Now, if you end up being one of the "unlucky ones" that catches a 'lemon" well then you'd be thankful that you did.
So, I guess it comes down to the money Vs peace of mind.
