2015 Indian Scout

Wow, cool I like it. Too bad some barfers are gonna dump on it. Also it's not a Harley.:laughing

Hey Tim I like it too! The red one especially-too bad for me it looks like the posture would not be so good with my lower vertebrae history, I need a slight lean forward but yeah I'd love to own one anyway.:thumbup

retro V-roddy. steering agility is more frame/motor geometry than weight, right? from what I've read, the Chieftain smokes the big H-D in the turns.
Scout seems a step in the right direction..I'd like to see 2 into 1 exhaust, tho. reminds me of a late Magna. eew.
I wanna try one..

I don't know, I haven't seen all the specs yet. I'm not sure what your getting at.

I'm not sure either now. Let me try again now that I'm awake.

I forgot higher is better. So the Sportsters coming in around 26 degrees are pretty awful. Probably because their ground clearance is not very much. The new Scout at 31 is ok for a cruiser, but not great. So while it's very lightweight which will make it "flickable" if that word can even be used when talking about a cruiser, it's gonna run out of lean angle deceptively quick and start grinding hero pegs or other parts. 31 isn't shit. My V-Rod Muscle is 32, and it grinds the hero peg way early too. Feels well planted and composed going in the turn like you could certainly take the curve much faster...if only those silly pegs, exhaust, and other hard parts weren't in the way.

Ask 9 out of 10 Harley guys and the supposed holy grail of H-Ds for handling was the FXR which was lightweight because of the Buell designed frame and had a lean angle of around 35. Just shows how little love the V-Rod gets among the Harley die hards, because the true holy grail was the VRSCR Street Rod. Much better frame, an engine that could easily be in a sportbike, and a lean angle of 40. The recent XR1200 also had 40.

Most sport standards have a lean angle in the mid-40 area and all out sportbikes are in the mid to high-50s.

Took all day yesterday for Indian to actually put the thing up on their website, but now that it is, you can see the full spec sheet. I got really impressed when I saw the weight. The horsepower and torque are fantastic...damn close to the early (1130cc) V-Rod motor. So it can certainly put some speed on between turns. Then you see the achilles heel when you scroll down the spec sheet and see that limited lean angle. Which means it'll handle very similar to my bike. Great in the small window you have, but you know there could be a lot more if it had more ground clearance.

Personally, I really like the look of the bike. Would love to test ride one if they bring it to the IMS this year. But I'm a bit confused of who they're trying to sell it to. 100hp and 72ft.lbs. while is a fry cry from a V-Max...sure isn't what I'd call the kind of numbers you'd want a "beginner" cruiser to have.

Wow that's a handsome looking bike! 10k isn't too much more then a sporty with probably way better performance. I love that tank btw

like to see what roland sands could come up with- a 2-1 and some mid foot controls would be awesome-finally a cruiser i would take a look at at a decent price.

In typical BARF fashion, people are acting like a cruiser is supposed to perform like a CBR. It's a cruiser, folks. Let it go. No one is going to drag a knee on a cruiser.

This thing exceeded my expectations in terms of performance and weight and it honestly looks really nice...to me. I realize everyone has a different opinion when it comes to visual preferences.

On barf for many is the measure of a bike is how it will perform in the motogp :laughing

I just looked at the websight. They offer some impressive upgrades for handlebar and footpeg positions. More rearward for smaller riders and more forward for taller riders. For the first one Indian did their homework.

This, in spades.

I think its a great effort. Victory and now Indian do a pretty good job engineering a motorcycle designed with the owner in mind. Meaning, the menial tasks of routine maintenance are considered.

I think Harley should take notice because Polaris is one cruiser builder that are not producing "Harley knock offs".

Harley is definately taking notice. Most recently with the Rushmore upgrades and the 750 and 500 cc bikes. They know they're gonna have to work to stay on top.

Thanks Tim i'll check it out for sure.

Nice. But I didn't see a larger tank on there for people who actually want to go places. 3.3 gallons isn't much fuel capacity. I wonder how far it will go without running out.

Somewhere I caught that a potential Victory model may use this engine. Maybe that will be more sporty-standard than cruiser.

This is not exactly my type of bike, but if it is going up against a Sportster, the Indian will win if any type of engineering is taken into consideration. I don't know the exact specs, but I guess a 1200 Sporty puts out somewhere near 55 HP -the Indian lis almost twice that. It may not have that the exact exhaust note -probably the only thing that has kept Harley in the game-but it is water cooled and I'll bet refined in many other areas. Good job Indian!

They're sorta pushing it as a chick-bike in the ad copy/website. Not sure how that will work in total sales, if the appeal to enough women will outnumber the lack of sales to insecure men to be seen on a "chick-bike" (aka Sportster).

I drive a Miata by the way...

I think that including women is pretty much standard in any modern marketing campaign, but it definitely makes sense for the Indian PR people to show women riding this bike as it will be the smallest in their lineup. I don't imagine many ladies would be going for the full 900-lb bagger.

I don't think it looks like a chick-bike...
I also drive a Miata :twofinger
