While CJ rested, I spent time riding with ThumperX and W. We poked around BoLA, and found some really neat roads, trails, and beaches. Good times.
After a couple of extra days in BoLA, CJ felt that he was ready to move along. He wasn't able to ride yet, so we loaded our bikes into my van and drove to San Ignacio. By the time we got there, he decided that he should be able to handle the pavement route to Mulege, so we unloaded and scooted on down to meet the rest of the crew.
We did find this little guy, hanging out on the floor near where CJ had his gear.
We arrived in time to spend some time with folks before we got the bad news about a member of the crew breaking his leg. Quickly, the rescue team was assembled and mobilized. Nurse Scott handled the medical side of things, W drove the Sprinter, Tom rode the bike back to Mulege, and Cabrito kept us up to speed via messaging on our InReach sat coms. It was a major bummer, but seeing how quickly and effectively the crew responded was impressive. (Not posting any pics out of respect for the injured rider)
Later that night, while most people were asleep, CJ and I decided to decorate the bikes of all of the new folks. Good times.
The next morning, most of us rolled out to San Ignacio, while a few folks stayed behind to take care of the injured rider. The route we took was fantastic and was filled with sand, water crossings, and nicely flowing trails. I was too busy keeping up with Tom and Bex that I didn't snap any pics.
We met up with some of the crew and joined them for tacos and beer. Afterwards, a few of us rode down to the beach. I was the first sucker who hit the nasty, rotting algae and kelp bogs. They looked reasonably solid, but grabbed onto the bike like quicksand. Fortunately, the mighty 690 was able to power through 15-20 feet of it and I emerged safely on the other side. The two riders behind me were not so fortunate. Here is a shot from the cliff above the beach. You can see my successful path on the left of the pic.
Another pic with a bit of zoom. Yes, I did return to the beach and helped to get them unstuck.
Upon returning to the hotel, I inspected my bike. It smelled HORRIBLE and had lots of nasty stuff dangling from it. I gave it a bit of a rinse with fresh water before shifting focus to tequila and beer.
The crew arrived and we went for a bite to eat (and more booze)
