OK, so I'd actually forgotten about The 200 this yr.....:wow

how many AFMers make that long trip these daze?

Easily one of the most boring events in motorcycling. The AMA needs to fix this event and restore it to its former glory.

i dont think the Daytona200 is an AMA event anymore. its just a club race at the moment. im not even sure that turning it back into a Pro AMA event would fix the problem of boring-ass racing.

NASCAR cant even keep their fans watching races. theyve chopped the Daytona500 up into stages w/ forced cautions to spice to up. so really, im not surprised that a motorcycle race cant keep fans watching an endurance race on a roval (road course inside an oval). moto racing doesnt attract NASCAR fans and moto fans generally dont do rovals or endurance races. only the Japanese seem to be willing to watch an endurance moto race.

It certainly CAN be boring, but I think of the many I've seen, more have been interesting than not.

There was the complete CF of "bowling for sport bikes" at the line a few years ago. The year DiSalvo won after rebuilding his bike. The year DiSalvo ALMOST won (he was tearing through the field at the end of the race, something to see). The spectacle of the night race, the race where Mladin did 2 stops instead of 3 (I think). Miguel's "here, hold my cane" win. Mladin's win over Nicky. Every slingshot win from behind at the line.

Yea, there have been some just run away years for sure, making it little more than a parade. But not always.

And the high banks are the high banks. My fondest memory, though, was Miguel's last pole. That was a year we actually got see a whole bunch of Daytona broadcast on SpeedVision. And they covered qualifying. Miguel had his Q on, crossed start finish with seconds on the lap clock (so it was everyones last lap), timed traffic perfectly, and, just as he left the last chicane, you could see a touch of wheelie as he powered in to 3 and 4, riding the bank high before just pulling off pole. It was a perfect run. He knew it, and you could tell he knew it as he hit the high bank. You could feel it. Because unlike car racing, we get to see the rider, their body language tells us things, it's more personal rather than hidden in a box. And he knew, he just had to ride it out. It was amazing to see.

The racers make the race, not the venue. Being endurance, Daytona is less forgiving, so, yea, it can be a boring race. But more often than not, it's a spectacle worth seeing, at least it was.

boring vs not boring is really all about the averages. one exciting race finish every 5 years is nothing to brag about, esp when a large portion of the >2hr race was probably filled w/ no action at all. ppl complain about GP and WSBK being boring even though at least half of all race laps are exciting. u know whats cooler than watching a 200mi 130min race where a bunch of racers are drafting to the line... watching a 40min race where a bunch of racers are drafting to the line :laughing

the flat track will be twins i think i read somewhere-the harley new bike vs indian new bike rivalry will be cool-so there's that.

I think the bigger problem with Daytona is the bikes outgrowing the track. Even if MotoAmerica somehow were to add the 200 to their schedule, there are serious doubts whether tires could be built which would hold up to modern Superbikes on the banking; even with a two or three pit stop strategy.

Not hating on Daytona, everyone I know who has raced there loved it.

I'm with Berth, most of the Daytona 200 in the last few decades were actually pretty exciting.

its ridiculous how stiff the Dunlop Daytona rear tires were. they felt inflated even not mounted.

And the French :laughing

Heck of a fire there.

Good finish.

How is this boring? You have so much shit that needs to be perfectly aligned when you come to pit.

I remeber the year the graves r6 was leading by a few seconds. His gas tank quick coupler didnt work correctly, delayed his gas fillup by a few seconds

Which lost him the race

I personally have enjoyed this race until about 5 years ago. I think the format and everything is great, for a few reasons:

1. It is different
2. It showcases the team as well (which all levels of racing are, this just gives the crew some limelight)
3. It is intense

But once DMG took it, it has been complete and utter shit.they should have never let Honda own FX and Yamaha SS, with Zook owning SBK lamest shit ever. Their fault for making a marketing series.

Now it is still a joke because it is on bullshit fanschoice and at a biased NASCAR track. And as much as it sucks to say, there are no name riders there that no one cares about.

Not to mention everyone I know who was good enough to run a series always said it was a complete waste of time and money but they had to check the box for the series.

Guess it's Americas version of the TT now.....

Ps somehow AMA/DMG is still affiliated due to rights/sanctioning etc but it's asra/ccs or some shit who runs it. Dumbest most atrocious thing ever. Motorcycling needs to stop being under the shadow and umbrella of NASCAR. Will always be second class citizen until then.

Does anyone have a link to the recording (assuming one exists)? I wasn't able to watch it.

So uh, what's up with the event shirt? Did the race get restored to its previous international prestige while no one was looking?
