It was a good day of racing. Not a lot of vehicles so we made 5 practice runs before eliminations. There was one oil down/crash by one of the cars, but it did not affect us.
My first two runs resulted in big wheelies right off the line. I ran a 9.29 and then A 9.26. I got one more in and had an almost perfect run, going 9.09 @149.85. So much for trying to break personal records, time to get serious and find a good number to run. The next pas i goo in deep to help my reaction times and I run a 9.24 and that was a surprise and then a run a 9.278 in the final practice run.
First round of eliminations and I am paired with James on his zx14. He normally runs wheelie bars, but the last few weeks had has not used them. He has been pretty consistent and running 10.70's most of the day. I dial a 9.24 and James dial a 10.73. I have a decent .074 light and James leaves with a .243 light. We take off and James is running good. I get to half track and I am not gaining on him. He crosses the finish line first but he breaks out running a 10.53 putting on the brakes. I run a 9.35 and get the win. I am starting to notice my clutch is acting funny. The product of very hard launches, it's the price I pay for good times. Next round I face Saun on the tlr1000. Saun dials a 11.60 and I dial 9.33. Saun has a great reaction time .012 and I have a .067 light. Just past half track I go by him and I get the win, running a 9.36 to his 11.71. The margin of victory is .0247. The clutch is getting worse. Hard to get neutral and the bike is starting to creep even with the clutch in. Next round I am facing Jesse Dolan on his Aprilia. Jesse dials a 10.80 and I dial a 9.35 and cross my fingers. We pull up to the line and bring the rpm's up. I feel my bike starting to creep and I try to dig my toes in to hold the bike still. Jesse takes off and I am waiting for my light to turn green. The bike is starting to move and I can keep it still. I turn on the red light -.112 early and instantly lose the race at the starting line. I run it out going a 9.502 and Jesse takes the win running a 11.073. My night is over, but Jesse makes it to the finals for the first time. He faces Doug Love and hands the win to Doug with a red light of his own.
