2022 schedule

Some good ideas there Wiles. We have to take a lunch break for the workers, but there may be ways to do things quick there. We may have to abandon qualifying, but not sure there too. Extra time is expensive and is weather dependent, etc. This is gonna be one...interesting....weekend, for sure.

Could the AFM get the Friday before or have a TD partner get the day and make it for racers only like BWillow does? It would be good for people to get some fast track time at Laguna before going all out into turn 2 for a race. There could be some racers who have never been on the track before.

Berto- Please keep some QP! This event will be a one off for many fast guys and Laguna can be a little tricky to pass in the first couple of turns.

Agree with Wiles, it would be a disaster to waste 6 hours on practice. This year was my first year racing but can absolutely see the appeal for everybody to race, even if it’s their only appearance for the year.
That said, it would be a real bummer to reduce the number of racing opportunities for us novices that have no business mixing it up with the elites.

It'd probably be a good idea to run a new format/schedule at an earlier round with lower turn-out to test it all out.

Testing is for the... yeah, OK, you might have a point there :laughing

Patrick, we have the Friday before the weekend as well right now @105db. 3-days in a row. We haven't figured out format yet. Best to query the membership me thinks...

Berto- Havent you learned by now that asking the members will just create a sh*t show lol...remember the buttonwillow backwards fiasco :)

My only request is to go back to normal practice for group 5 so we get more sessions. Since AFM has Friday then we should do a MA or WSBK double header schedule with practice and QP on Friday. People will complain since they need Friday off now but so be it. This is a one off event for now.

Side note: do you need a AFM license to run the Friday before?

Berto, I think you've been doing this long enough to have a really good idea of what works well for the club as a whole. Don't ask, tell!

First ask, then do whatever you wanted in the first place. Nobody will know which way the votes leaned anyway but people will feel heard :laughing

I wonder when we can expect the race weekend schedule to be published...

I would assume the Laguna round would have a special schedule that will be posted at a later date much closer to the race weekend.

just a heads up. The T-hill website shows round 4 in June on a different weekend than the schedule in this thread.

Just cross-checked this on SCCA website as they are on Thunderhill calendar for the June 18-19 weekend, and their website says they are doing "San Francisco Region Double Regional Races 7 & 8 @ Thunderhill Raceway Park" on those days.

Good catch, seems like you are right and the graphic has it off by one weekend. For those too lazy to check, Thunderhill website has AFM on the weekend of June 11-12, and that Friday is with Z2.

So with that info, do you think the AFM schedule is incorrect, or the Thunderhill calendar is incorrect?

As SCCA website and Thunderhill website agree I would assume AFM schedule is incorrect. It would be nice to get a confirmation from BoD, though.

Afm schedule is incorrect. Thanks Jack for emailing us. The corrected schedule will be out by weeks end. One Thunderhill date has moved and the Laguna date has moved one week earlier. Updated schedule will be posted here too. Sorry guys...this has been a hard year for some dates.

Thanks for confirming, Berto! Appreciate getting a schedule together is tough; just happy we have a full season coming! :party

Official post will go live on social media beginning of next week, but here's the updated schedule:

Round 1: Buttonwillow March 19th and 20th
Round 2: Buttonwillow April 23rd and 24th
Round 3: Thunderhill May 21st and 22nd
Round 4: Thunderhill June 11th and 12th (Updated Date)
Round 5: Thunderhill August 6th and 7th (Additional Round)
Round 6: Thunderhill September 17th and 18th
Round 7: Laguna Seca October 8th and 9th (Updated Date)

Well, damn. I sort of understand the TH confusion, but why did Laguna move? I've dreamt of racing there but moving it up a week might be a no go. Are we now 100% sure on these dates? I'll have to cancel my vaca request but I'll wait for a confirmation.

I don't know why there would be any changes at this point, but I think if anything has taught us over the last couple years, anything could and will happen.

Are we going to be able to rent garages at Laguna? Cause that sounds pretty awesome.
