2023 F1 Thread *SPOILERS*

This rule change along with the spending caps was always going to benefit RB the most because they have the greatest aerodynamicist the sport has ever had on their team. He was the reason that Vettel had 4 WDC's, after that his attention was on other things for a number of years, but now that he's back and engaged, all things considered, this dominance by RB was predicatable.

I agree that I think the new floor regs didn't do anyone any favors to catch RB. RB was seemingly running at a taller ride-height last year and was probably less impacted by the new regs. Given that they don't seem to be making poor decisions in development, they may have pulled even further ahead over the winter. We probably need stable rules for the rest of this rule-cycle for the teams to close the gap. Hopefully the FIA doesn't do another reactionary rule change and set them back again.

On the R&D front - Honda's new wind tunnel

Will be interesting to see how this new $124M facility is utiized by F1 and Indy teams using Honda engines / sponsorship.

"One of the most advanced of its kind anywhere, the wind tunnel uses a unique interchangeable modular ground plane system capable of aerodynamic vehicle testing of production vehicles and race machines.

With a five-belt rolling road system designed for production vehicle development and a second single wide-belt system for testing both high-performance sports cars and purpose-built race vehicles, the tunnel can generate wind speeds of more than 190 miles per hour."

It's not that: it's that testing time for race units may not being logged as such...probably logged as a $30K civic.

If you enjoy parades, this race would have been fine for you.

For the rest of us, the high point of the race was Alonso getting past Hamilton and Sainz.

Other than that, BOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGG!

If this is a preview of the season, I see myself 2x fast forwarding through most of the races.

I feel the exact same way. This was the ONLY race that I never bothered to watch 100%.

Ferrari's in deep shit. Charles Leclerc was hit with a 10-place grid penalty for this weekend's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The sanction was metered out by Formula One's rulers the FIA after Ferrari were forced to change the power unit twice in Leclerc's car at the season-opening race in Bahrain.

Ferrari then moved to use a third power unit for the race in Saudi Arabia, breaking the rules that only permit two changes in an entire season.

Fun fact: Inside that HAAS building are a plethora of Mori-Seiki machines. HAAS uses Mori's to build THEIR own machines they sell...

"The more you know"!

Ohhh...thought the left the Russian market all together.

They are called "Mother Machines" A machine builder needs machines that are more accurate than theirs to manufacture their own, unless theirs are accurate enough (hello Okuma). Nothing new here. Understand that Mori Seiki need machines more accurate than theirs to manufacture Mori Seikis to their specifications, until or unless theirs will do the job.

"Mother machines"...new term I learned. We learned of when the tech's told us that no one around us (Oxnard) has Mori's except HAAS. Everyone in the area has HAAS machines and finding tech's and machinist with Mori experience hasn't been the easiest. "Mother fucker machines" is my new term!

Hell, finding anyone with experience on any machine is a bitch at this time. We are constantly looking for qualified candidates. No, we don't make pizzas or stock shelves Mr. Applicant, please pay closer attention to the job description!

That said, we currently need skilled setup / operator personnel for CNC mill, CNC lathe, sinker and wire EDM in Campbell. A CMM operator / inspector would be nice as well. Programming experience preferred.

If that doesn't belong here, please delete it. I thought that as we were on the topic.... I have posted open positions on numerous occasions in the jobs forum. With the exception of Mike95060, nobody has responded.

Alonso continues to look strong, I think it's going to be a good year for him, possibly top 3 or even 2.

Mercedes still looks a step behind.

Regarding Alonso, I think that it is a little premature to make such predictions after just 1 race.

Yes, he looked great, and I am happy for him,,,, BUT,, it's only 1 race.

I do hope that MB can pick up the pace.

Alonso seemed to pick up where he left off in FP1, it is early in the weekend, but it's another good start.
