2024 Formula 1 thread ***spoilers***

Hocevar's the real deal. He's placing average of 12th in his rookie season...and running with the top teams with a lesser team. If he's in Cup next year, we should meet up at Sonoma for the race.
That would be cool.

Hamilton says they should stop ignoring Africa to hold a race. Well, they did have the South African GP for a few years.

And honestly, money could be better spent elsewhere on the continent than building a vanity project like a F1 street or traditional circuit.

An influx of lots of tourism money could be good for a region. And if outside money is building the track, that's also money being added to the region during construction and continuing with maintenance. All that could elevate the region - maybe more/faster than what local govt could do.

I do want to know what Hamilton's opinion is for the point of F1 going different places. F1 can exclude local fans from events if they are in a low-income region and have high ticket prices. Will any locals be able to see the race IRL if ticket prices are $500? Or will they just be "stuck" working concessions or nearby hotels and restaurants? Does this matter, or is the economics of increased tourism enough to justify F1 in Africa?

I'm pretty sure all the teams have access to all the radio messages. Thats y they all use codes and often want to discuss things later.

It's funny that Yuki hasn't come up in this situation.
That's exactly what I was going to say. Yuki swears like a Sailor!!! LOL!!!

Kind of. They are not suppling anything (from what I read). They are partnering with HAAS.

F1 returns this weekend at CotA. Apparently, Red Bull is bringing a "magical" upgrade. Will it work? Will Sergio do well and complete the season? Or will he be sacked after Mexico?

Last year's results. The DQs were for skid plank violations.

I hope there are no skid plank problems this time since the track has been resurfaced and I think only MotoGP has run on the new asphalt. So, the braking bumps should be non existent (at least for the first half of the weekend).

Also, it is a sprint weekend. :banana :banana

The temps shouldn't be anywhere near 100 degrees, so the surface should hold up better than in hot conditions.

Interesting that they want to remove a bonus for fastest lap, as a spectator it adds something interesting to the race, sometimes one of the few interesting things towards the end of the race.

I am pretty sure the Ricardo thing is the straw that broke the camel's back on that. However, I do agree that it was something to look for towards the end of races.

I do see the other side as it allows someone who is not in the title hunt to steel the point (being able to pit without loosing a position which usually happens mid pack).

Nice 1-2 for Ferrari.

Why didn't McLaren tell Lando to give the position back? He would have got it back a lap or two later.

I think the bigger question is...why did Verstappen not get a penalty for either the start at turn 1 (forcing another driver off the track for which Piastri got a penalty for in the sprint race) nor for turn 12 when he went way way wide to keep his position from Carlos (which looked to be the exact same as what happened to Norris).

I am starting to think Climber might be right as the stewards appeared to favor Max.

Hax sure was whining about a situation he created when he ran Norris off the track for the second time in the race.
He's made a career out of doing that kind of thing, trying to use the rules to his favor with an aggressive move, but several other drivers got penalized for running another off the road but Max got a free pass, twice.
The proper and fair solution to that situation would have been to penalize both Norris (for gaining an advantage) and Max (for forcing another driver off the road).

I'm with Brett now too racinfrk. I like Max, but clearly he let off the brake pedal after Lando was passing him...knowing he was going to be going the totally wrong direction when he got to the apex, but he'd be able to block the inside line. Total bullshittery from the FIA...who's probably one of the worse sanctioning bodies in the world for resolving these types of conflicts, much less being benevolent. And on that front; anyone keeping up on Jordan suing NASCAR for anti-comptetive actions? Pretty interesting stuff there too....

Well, if Perez does continues to perform the way he has been, then Ferrari should easily be able to over take Red Bull for second in the constructors.

With Mexico being this weekend, who thinks Perez will be let go before the end of the season?
