2025/2026 NFL Thread

I wish I could have understood the halftime show. I tried putting on Closed Captions CC. I watch several foreign travel channels on Youtube including A Different Agenda. All have a way to have English subtitles when someone is talking another language. Not on NBC

I did find a site on CNN that had a good crib sheet on what went on. Click here.
I wish they had subtitles also I may not like his music personally but at least I could have understood what was going on and that may have engaged me more in the halftime show. I think they really missed an opportunity here and should have had Metallica do it you know seeing as it was in the bay area.

Was talking to my daughter and she said that marriage ceremony during the show was an actual marriage. I couldn't say if its true or not but if true kind of cool.

people bitched about not being able to understand Kendrick Lamar last year, too.

I didn't watch either halftime show though I did watch the game.

Early reports indicate that Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX halftime show in 2026 broke all-time viewership records, with some estimates suggesting up to
142.3 million viewers. The performance, featuring artists like Lady Gaga, drew significant global attention, surpassing the previous record of 133.5 million viewers for Kendrick Lamar in 2025.

versus:

The 2026 All-American Halftime Show (produced by Turning Point USA) drew a peak of over 5 to 6.1 million concurrent viewers on YouTube, with total views exceeding 16 million by the end of the day. The alternative show, featuring Kid Rock, was designed to compete with the Super Bowl's official halftime performance.

Yeah, I guess it is political.
I was thinking it was just a wonderful humanitarian message.

Sam Darnold got a $249K tax bill for playing the SB in CA

The reason for this tax enigma is simple, as outlined by AthlonSports: Darnold accrued eight incremental duty days by playing in the Super Bowl. While the $178,000 in additional compensation gets added to his total 2025 season take-home pay, his total contract, which is over $33 million dollars annually on average, will now face an incremental apportionment to the state of California.

Some assumptions are difficult to validate without knowing the precise number of duty days players record and exactly how many days players record as duty days for the Super Bowl. However, assuming that Darnold has 180 duty days each year, these eight Super Bowl days represent 4.44% of his year, and California will apportion approximately $1.5 million of his compensation, levying a 13.3% state income tax on this compensation.

Looks like the NFL may be thinking of bouncing CA from the list of SB locations...

Well, as SF is excited about the $500m of revenue the event seems to have pulled into the local economy, looks like the Superbowl going forward should only be allowed in the below list of States.

  • Florida: No income tax (constitutionally prohibited), high tourism-driven sales taxes.
  • Nevada: No individual or corporate income tax.
  • Tennessee: No income tax, generally higher sales taxes.
  • Texas: No personal or corporate income tax, but high property taxes.
  • Washington: No personal income tax, but levies a tax on certain long-term capital gains.
That's too bad.

The only person who I have seen who grabbed his crotch more than Michael Jackson. Just checking is this thing still down there.

That article is incorrect.

His $200K tax bill is from over $4M in earnings playing the SB and 2 other games in California during the year.
Don't let facts get in the way of your rich guy tax outrage!

It is a non issue for these guys.

Miami and New Orleans are tied for the most Super Bowl host duties with 11 games each. New Orleans achieved its 11th hosting when Super Bowl LIX took place in February 2025.

  • Florida has hosted 17 Super Bowls total (most of any state)
  • California follows with 13 Super Bowl games
  • The 2026-2028 Super Bowl events are confirmed for California and Atlanta

It makes a great headline if your favorite thing to do is cry about having to pay taxes. Because, who among us is as put upon as much financially as elite professional athletes right?

  • Haha

Welcome to back to KA Sam!! :twofinger

I would assume his KA tax is deductible on his personal income tax wherever he calls home.

The "Jock Tax" is a real thing, it was just misrepresented.

Other States do it too??

Has to be a bit of an accounting task for Baseball and other sports.

Heck.. even the top Supercross guys might be trying to figure out to who to pay what.
