2026/2027 NFL Thread

Pretty sure he meant the 0-6 harbaugh

I mean, why would anyone even pay attention to that guy?

He was a has been that failed out of the NFL before he went to Coach for one of the most irrelevant teams in NFL history, and if that backstory wasn't enough, he is on a fucking AFC Team. :rolleyes

Niners 6-0 despite Shanahan's best efforts to choke the game against the Commies. Saved by the D. Evans goes out and the offense dies. Evans is playing with bad ribs and ankle so why didn't he have a plan-B ready for that foreseeable outcome? I know, no WR1 is a bitch, but certainly he should be able generate a modicum of offense with "just" Kittle, CMC, Juice, Black and WR2/3s. Purdy can certainly dink and dunk to move the chains with anyone.

HOA football league?
Good gosh, no. Just opening the clubhouse, which is equipped with a big arse TV on the wall for a bit of community experience. Was a good game for the 11 in attendance. The game had so many WTF moments, I did explain more color commentary than discuss HOA bidness.

More like WR 7-8.

Evans went out meaning this is the list of WRs not available:

Evans
Deebo
Kirk
Stribling
Robinson
Pearsall

Brandin fucking Cooks is getting game time in 2026 for the undefeated Niners.

I'm chalking up the first L of the season on the road to ATL, then the bye week, then hopefully 2-3 of those guys are back + Bosa, then push the chips in and get Deforest Buckner back from Indy.

Thought that was going to be a blowout, left for a bit, turned back on when it was a 6 pt nailbiter to the end.

O went flat
D came up big in the end

Mustapha with back to back game savers late. Wow, he body slammed that receiver

Some of those players are out for the season and some will be back after the bye. None of that is relevant to game planning for WAS. Shanahan knew Evans was playing hurt so he should have been prepared for him to go out.

Yeah, seems likely plus West coast teams often struggle on 10am East coast games.

When your 1 good receiver also gets hurt, it absolutely affects your game plan. All the contingencies in the world don't matter when you have to have Jacob fucking Cowing trying to run Mike Evans' routes and WAS knows they can put an extra defender in the box against the run because the pass game is crippled.

Good to see the no- calls transfer from The Chiefs to the 49ers.

Good coaching should adjust your game plan to match what your talent on the field can handle.

Exactly. And my main point was that WR1 was playing injured so him going out was completely foreseable and Shanahan should have been prepared for that. If the offense had gotten a few first downs instead of all 3 and outs in the 4th quarter the Commies would not had enough time for a comeback.

Also, on the defensive side, when the Commies were rolling for their last touchdown to make it close they were running a hurry up offense. The D was gassed getting rushed and confused so Morris should have called a time out so they could take a breather, regroup, refocus and make substitutions. They could have stopped that comeback drive before they got to the 50yd line avoiding all the 2 minute drama at the end. My guess (and I'd love to know) is that Morris wanted a timeout but was overruled by Shanahan because he wanted so save them (3 TOs!) for the offense to score a last minute FG for the win.

That sort of thinking and coaching errors will lose them the SB. Niners better hope they don't play (and get out coached) by KC in the SB... again.

He had a hurt rib, so an achilles injury was forseeable?

Why aren't you working for a team somewhere Nostradamus??

I think the 49ers have themselves another Ronnie Lot. Mustapha reminds me a lot of Lot, back in the day.

No mysticism needed. His achilles problem was known long before that game. He didn't even practice with the team the last two games, just side work.

So his achilles problem was known before the game, but Kyle didn't plan on him possibly hurting it during the game?

That's what you're implying?

It's not just Evans leaving mid game. It's Evans, Deebo, Robinson, Kirk, and Stribling ALL being out. IDK if you watched any All22 but there were several plays where Brandin Cooks -- who should not be on an NFL roster in 2026 -- ran the wrong route and killed plays.

but I guess Kyle just didn't game plan. That's probably what happened.

I did not imply it, I said it.

I also said that those others being out that week was irrelevant to game planning for the Commies. You game plan for who you got. You are making my argument. Shanahan knew that Evans was playing injured and that without him the remaining WRs suck he should have been ready for that scenario. Moreover, he didn't lose his QB and wasn't weaponless -- he still had two All Pros and probable Hall of Famers in Kittle/CMC plus Juice and RB Black who was averaging ~4yds per carry plus Purdy to attack the D. The offense didn't even need to score to ice the game. All they had to do was get a few first downs in the fourth quarter instead of three(!) 3 and Outs. One or two first downs (and maybe more runs instead of passes) would have left no time on the clock for the Commie comeback.

On to Cincinnati.

In ice hockey when a team is ahead in the third and they just try to protect a small lead, it is called "turtling".
When you have been aggressive all game and been able to generate offense, keep up offensive pressure and keep the play out of your own defensive end, and you switch your game plan and stop that and just try to just be conservative and simply prevent the other team from scoring, often doesn't work.l so well
