I hear ya the engine breaking is so totally different from a 4 banger. Thank god for the slipper on this.
 
i think it really depends on your riding style....For some people (like myself) a liter bike has TOO much power. I'd probably be bringing the front end up and doing power slides all the time. Granted one can learn better throttle control, it's all about how you LIKE to ride.

And maybe i'm just not picky, but a 600 seems to accelerate fast enough on the streets for me, faster than my POS car that's for sure :twofinger
 
Personally, I like to pack 2 600's, that way if 2 cylinders give out I still have a spare set. But seriously, I got the 12R because a) it fits, and b) it can do everything.

If I were to get a bike just for railing, I think I'd want that rumoured RSV-450. But I wouldn't want to ride an average SS 600 to Seattle, too buzzy. Life's a compromise, unless you want to have multiple bikes.
 
Now that I'm racing a 600, I completely agree with my theory from last year. Thanks for resurfacing this thread.

My reasons for buying my 900RR. 3, 4, 2, 1 priority wise. plus surprisingly it gives much better gas mileage than my Kat 750, maybe because it runs at much lower rpms.
 
I wanted a bike that was comfortable for longer rides, and one I didn't have to wring out the way I'd heard the 600's require. I was at a loss, though, for what to buy, because I didn't see anything I really wanted, the summer before last, when I really started to get the itch for a new bike. I was doing more wrenching than riding with the Vintage 2-strokes, and my riding ability, not to mention my sanity, was being sorely compromised!

Main considerations were comfort, no extreme riding position: I'll never go roadracing, no clip-ons need apply; Durability. I figured a larger bike could be ridden easier and therefore last longer.
Price. If I couldn't find a new bike I liked for under $10K, I was going to look for something older with low mileage (not that hard to find up here with the much shorter riding season).

When I saw the first pics of the Z1000 before it's release, I knew it was the one. Upright handlebars, not an extreme state of tune--it was said it would be more Torque-oriented than the all-out Sportbikes. I've had several Kawi inline Fours, including the old
Z-1 900, so I'm kind of partial to them already.

When I sat on one during the December '02 Int'l MC show, I was hooked. It took another 7 months to talk myself into it, and I LOVE this bike. Even more comfortable than I first thought it would be, easy to ride, acceleration instantly on tap when you need it. It seems to be a perfect bike for my needs. I've taken it camping on 400 mile days, and ridden as far as SJ. Nirvana on two wheels for me.
