Nice writeup, that isn't a Z8 off in the distance there is it?

How different are the bikes from a 250 from a 600 handleing and power wise though?
Did you read the story?:laughing Newer 600s have four times the horsepower and on paper handle far better. Neither of those things matter on the road.

You have put into words what every (experienced) 250 ninja owner knows at heart.

Great write-up. Couple years ago I met a chick while camping in the Redwoods. She had driven a Suzuki (GZ?) 250 from northern Washington to San Diego and was on her way back, camping the whole way. She told me how she was getting hassled by (mostly) HD riders...until they got to the mountains and twisties. Then, she blew them away. I learned a lot about packing and weight distribution of my gear from that lady...

Nicely done.

For those on the fence that are wondering, this is something the AFM 250P racers as well as us nice folks over at http://www.ninja250.com have known for a long, long time.

Welcome to reality, where two-wheeled fun doesn't require a second mortgage. :)

Mmmmm, great writeup, Pashnit! Now I really want to go to Big Sur (/drool) and add a 250 to keep my five hundred company. :D

:thumbup Great write-up!

I rode my girlfriend's Ninja 250 several times and always had a blast on it! All of the extra horsepower that the bigger bikes have is fun at times, but for the most part the horsepower of the 250 is more than adequate to have a blast out riding!

Some other things that make it a great bike are the insurance rates (less than 1/6 the cost of a liter bike), the gas milage (>55 mpg) and parts (less than half the price of larger sport bikes and in the case of fairings less than 1/4 the price).

And lastly, if you're on one of these bikes and come across other bikes in the twisties, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain if you pass or get passed. I always love to hear the stories about Gary J. smoking people who are on liter bikes with his Ninja 250, something which I'm sure the smokee's would never talk about. :teeth

ditto.... i miss my first 250!!!! wasnt a ninja, but the small engine fun is the same. i cant way to get my (2 stroke!) TZR250 up and running - all the light flickablity of the ninja 250 but with less weight, more power, and better frame/suspension/brakes technolgoy!!!! :D

very cool write up. i saw the post and glanced at the whole thing at first and thought "this should be gooood"; enjoyable read thru it and was even more pleased upon compleation.

Long Live the Ninja 250
(even tho its way overdue for a renovation)
