848 vs. 675 - Which should I buy?

That is a tough decision indeed. Their weights are within 10lbs of each other and the Ducati has more power overall. White bike or factory gold wheels? Single-sided swingarm? I can't decide which one looks better. Ultimately I would probably get the 675 and use the $4,000 or so I saved to upgrade it.

ride them both and you will know for sure.

if you can't decide - u can always buy them both and give me the one you like less =P

if costs are completely a non-issue though -
i would go for the ducati.

I have a 675 but am lusting for a white 848. I was at Hattar and they had a yellow one I sat on. It was pouring outside so I didn't ride it, but just from sitting on it I wasn't terribly impressed. I have heard the low end power isn't as great as the 675 - which is strange considering it is a twin. If money is no object buy both. You can never have too many bikes. :ride

I think the 848 would be a better daily bike, as I heard the ergos are much more comfy. I think the 675 maybe with some suspension revisions would be much more fun on the track. Just my .02

WRONG.

I commute on an 848 and I sat on my friend's 675 right after I got home. The 675 is more comfortable everywhere. As far as fun on the track it could tip either way. Very few if any of us can even reach the full potential so just get what gives you wood.

You get use to the painful riding position of the 848, or just enjoy it if you're into that S&M shit.

I rode the 848 at the track recently and my god what an amazing motorcycle. Wouldn't want one for the street though.

Go ride them both, get the one that speaks to you ;)

win-win situation.
They both make the monkey dance at midnight.

Not to complicate things but give the Street Triple some love too. Got that 675 engine with some really comfortable ergos.

:rofl I like the idea of getting both and keep the one that you like.
If you are motor driven then get a Duc. But in my case, I'll get the 675 because I want a bike that is more of a all-purpose bike. :ride

I love my 675. I have not ridden the 848. I will say a few people here have had negative comments about the 675 but all three of the other people I know that do have them are totally ga-ga over the low-mid range torque at the track. The 848 is a stunning looking bike though.

I will offer this one bit of opinion though. If you get the 675 immediately get the full titanium Arrow exhaust and have the ECU re-mapped. YOU DO NOT NEED A PCIII!!!! The ECU on the Daytona can be re-programmed. Any good tune guy with a Tune-Boy system will be able to set you up:thumbup

It's actually a triple. Does this change your vote?

Doh! Forgot what "triumple" are known for. Sad because I have ridden my dad's 955i a few times. I made the choice I made based on riding that 955i vs. the RC51 I had at the time. Neither one had much power below 4k rpm, but the v twin was just more to my liking. The vibration of the twin gave me a sense that the power was more raw and unrefined than the more electric feel of an inline 4, or even the triple on the Triumph.

Honestly, I'm going with the 848 for more superficial reasons rather than more real ones since I've ridden neither. I like the look and sound better on the Ducati. It'd be awesome if they made a black one like the 749 dark they had a couple years back.

This is my question too....
Haven't answered it for myself yet, but enjoying the responses.
The 848 will be at the Ace opening in May(3 and 4?). Take a ride there and then try the 675. That is my plan.

whatever you do, dont get a 749S Dark
cuz thats gonna be mine :p

Good luck. They didn't make an S in the dark version. The dark had a different suspension and it didn't have the adjustable steering head and tank/seat.No stabalizer either and a different swingarm. It's more than just paint.

Wow what a tough decision. I don't think you can go wrong choosing either bike. I would choose the 848 if I were you, but I am a little biased. :p

First let me congratulate you for being in such a position to be in the market for both lovely machines.
My opinion would be useless since my riding ability can not even come close to either motos 100%, plus I have not riden a 848 (I'am working on changing that). Although I do own a 1098 and I love it. (note: not my first Duc)

So, I say to you, what are the x-factors?! Think and feel them! Then buy the one that warms the soul!

P.S.
we all should be happy that we have so many great motos to pick from
