Oh, I'm sure they are gonna be rich... problem is, it's not enough. Guy seriously needs to lose his job. Why? Cause the millions that they are going to get paid is OUR money!! He has no business being a public servant anymore IMO.

Karma's a bitch. If he ever gets hurt in the line of duty I hope know one radio's it in or stops to help his punk ass!

Dispatchers are trained to calm people down and get the needed information even when people are freaking out.
I wonder why the sargent was working 911 instead of driving a patrol car. Every department I have worked for has had civilians work the 911 phone, not an officer.

Agreed. As a phone jockey myself and one who has trained phone staff for years, calming influence is the most critical tool. I often use 911 as the pinnacle example of what a real stressful call is like and how everything else pales in comparison. I have a friend who is a 911 operator in the central valley and she has confirmed a lot for me about how the job works and I too am puzzled why an officer and not a civilian was doing this job in the first place.

FTR, I don't think I could do that job and have the WORLD of respect for those folks who last in that job:teeth

Too bad that the girl put herself ahead of her dads situation. She should have just washed her mouth out and made a proper call.

Classic crossed communication:
1. She didn't realize someone was already listening on the phone and he came at her with an admonishment which set her back on her heels.
2. Different generations and backgrounds. She may be used to swearing under duress and he "turns off" when he hears such profanity.

It is his job to put aside his feelings of propriety and be the professional. He should never picked up the phone if he was not ready to listen and assist.

She, on the other hand would have rather chewed out the officer than help her father. Imagine leaving his side to go to the police department to complain? :wtf Poor dad...

You're not actually blaming her, are you? The girl was calling 911 over and over again, what part of that was self serving? Would you have not been frustrated and possibly a little out of sorts?

Tools/supplies needed:
1) piano wire
2) cops' nut sack
3) tree branch
4) tall chair

Instructions:
1) Take piano wire and tie a noose on one end, take the other end...

Just because the cop was 100% wrong here doesn't make her right. I don't understand the conversation at all. The sergeant doing the dispatching was totally unresponsive to her need. Never once did he actually try to ascertain what the issue was. I found it interesting that he swore right back...while admonishing her for swearing! However, at least the way it was edited, it appeared that she never said anything beyond, "I need an ambulance." People in real emergencies tend (not always, but usually) to start right away with why an ambulance might be needed. "I've been shot!" If I had heard just the conversation, without the back story, I believe I would have made the same judgment that the officer made: that she was faking it or it wasn't actually that serious.

That does NOT excuse his actions. His training should have taught him that some people DO react this way. They make demands and swear up a storm. It's not a useful or polite reaction, but it isn't uncommon. He really needed to handle it seriously and deal with the girl later if it turned out to be frivolous. He's 100% wrong in his reaction.

But she's no gem, either. First, she handled 911 wrong, which has more to do with ignorance of how the system works. Generally it's better to stay on the line until it's answered. Call back and you go to the end of the line. But that's not right or wrong. Swearing at the officer from first contact? Seeming to be more interested in her hurt ego than the fact that her Dad isn't getting any help? Heading to the station to get help...good move! Heading to the station to file a complaint? During the emergency? WTF? She's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. None of these were doing her Dad a bit of good and she should have figured that out pretty quick.

The VICTIM here is her Dad. He was victimized by a clash of egos, one of which he had a hand in creating. Yes, bad shit happened to him. Yes, the officer was a jackass. Yes, the officer should have handled it very, very differently. But she's still behaved in a way that is generally not acceptable. (But also not criminal...no reason to arrest her.)

I can't think of any valid emergency situation where a 911 operator should hang up on a caller. I don't care how abusive the caller is, 911 is there to assist with emergencies, period, end. I've heard some bad tapes of calls where the caller is calling the operator names and sreaming shit like "you motherfuckers are never here when we really need you!" and never heard an operator hang up.

Fucker should lose his job and get some therapy:thumbdown

trained operators should have handled the emergency. I get the drift this guy was on the 911 desk as some kind of punishment- as he surely appears to not be trained for 911 call reception. I hope she gets millions....

Fire the dweeb. Idiot...

Cop was a total asshole. On the other hand I don't think she deserves a frkkn penny for being a moronic douchebag.
