This played out over 5 days. Started out as a tragic accident, became a puzzle as more details were revealed, ended as an outrageous crime.

I. Motorcyclist killed, 2 other critically injured in Indianapolis
An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department car responding to a call hit two motorcycles from behind, killing one and injuring two others. The officer and K9 partner were on the way to assist in an arrest, lights and siren on. The motorcycles were stopped at a stoplight and failed to move as the squad car approached.
II. Witness recounts crash involving IMPD car
"I heard the sirens coming," said the rider who was not hit in the collision. "I looked to the left, then to the right, and then back, and I see a cop car coming toward us. We can't move to the right, because there are cars stopped to the right. We can't go forward, because there are cars in front of us. What we did, is we stayed put. It's what we are supposed to do. The only avenue for the cop is the left-turn lane, and that was free."
III. Officer in fatal motorcycle crash was impaired
A blood draw from an Indianapolis police officer who crashed into two motorcycles, killing one person and critically injuring two others, tested positive for alcohol, Chief Paul Ciesielski said today.

A family member of one of the victims said he was told by authorities that the officer had a blood alcohol count of .19 percent--more than twice the legal limit for driving.

Two hours after the crash, his blood was .19 says a new update

:rip rider

Sadly there are tons of similar incidents just like this without the sensationalism of it being an officer.

The department has been slow to release details of the crash and initially suggested the motorcyclists failed to yield to the officer.
"Several vehicles yielded and moved to the right shoulder{$326} however, three motorcycles were stopped in traffic in the left lane and did not move," Officer Brian K. Dixon, an IMPD spokesman, said in a statement released shortly after the crash. "The officer slowed, braked and swerved trying to avoid colliding with the motorcycles, but was unable to do so."
:rolleyes

How is DD's post "hating on the cops"? Summarizing what's in the newspaper accounts isn't exactly hating. If the information that has come to light thus far is not favorable, does recounting that information count as hatred? Who's armchair quarterbacking?

DD said it was a tragedy. People are dead. Sounds tragic to me.

Don't be hating on the cops, you have no idea what the other side, the real side of the story was. Goddamn armchair quarterbacks.

A drunk hits and hits someone. You're 1st reaction is, he's a cop and probably had good reason. Troll or extreme bias? :dunno

hating on the cops is just as stupid as blindly defending them.

looking forward to being called a fucktard, btw, so lets get that started asap BB.

Suspect BB was being sarcastic. He started a zillion page thread a few years ago entitled "Did cops Murder a rider?" or something like that.

I have hopes for this one, DA's and juries usually don't love the bad cops.
I hope the specimen collection met all the guidelines and forensic requirements.

Far more substance here than usual to start hating on this guy. Someone light the charcoal ok?

This cop should get what every other drunk driving killer should get. A long drop on a short rope and then a quick roll into a shallow grave.

Forgot that part. Obviously anyone who is 2.5x drunk and behind the wheel is a tool, such a person who harms another is a criminal, one who does such with a badge is a traitor. The comment was sarcastic.

BB's just being sarcastic, imitating those who defend cops no matter what.

Oops, my bad. :blush

Still not sure about how that one ended up, would like to think tragic mishap, hope it was not intentional. Sad when kid ends up dead over a speeding ticket. http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46311&

a 0.19 two hours after the incident...assuming he was post-absorptive (i.e., all of the alcohol in his stomach has been absorbed) and assuming an average elimination rate, his BAC was around a 0.23 at the time of the crash.

+1. Hang 'em.

Let's not jump to conclusions here. Maybe he was sober at the time of the incident and he was so upset by what happened that he started pounding liquor to calm himself.

And yes, I am being sarcastic.
