Air Bag Jackets

I wear my Hitair outside my jacket

A factor in my vest decision was to wear over my jackets/Stitch. I’ll probably be able to decide what to wear quickly since the vest is always going to be the finishing touch of my ensemble.
Jeff did you say that you had no problems standing on the pegs with the hit-air?

Will The Taft Rally have an air vest/jacket runway to show off our goods?
Will Rally BARFers be more interested in these air devices than someone’s new V4? :twofinger

:laughing

Love your style Wanker...!

Air bag runway.. :rofl

You can adjust the lanyard to your liking. I have mine adjusted so that I can just feel it's tug when I'm standing. It takes a considerable pull to activate it. I also carry a spare CO2 cartridge and the little tool with me in my tool kit.
This retailer has the best prices on cartridges.

I will have a Klim vest before my next overnight ride.

Great thread! I've been thinking about one of these as well.

So if you pay the $399 up front for the subscription type service ... seems that goes to the company In&motion (not a Klim thing) I guess a risk is In&motion goes out of business.

If that happens ... does the vest still work? Just no more updates to the software (detection smarts)?

And for the tether vs. autonomous (electronic) detect/deploy systems ... is the downside of the tether just a bit of a pain being tied to your bike & a bit goofy? Or does the tether system not work in certain crash cases as well as the electronic detection ones?

I have the Helite jacket with the tether. It's low tech but works for me. I don't have to charge anything, don't have to update anything, and the airbag is built in to the jacket so I just have one thing to put on. I'm not a daily rider and rode for many years without having to attach a tether so sometimes I forget to "buckle up" right away, then remember just after I get started.
Not sure if there's much of a difference in front end collisions between electronic and tether systems, both will deploy in the blink of an eye although if you slide with the bike the tether wouldn't deploy while the electronic would.

I have the Tech Air 5 and the A* Yuagara jacket. Fits well under the jacket and although it does have a significant weight to it, you don't really notice after awhile.

I did have a false deployment when saying my good byes to some riding buddies at the end of a ride. It was just a bro hug at that last stop at a gas station and boom, it deployed. Totally scared the sh!t out of me. Felt like someone came up from behind and slammed his hands on both shoulders.

After realizing what happened we started laughing. It took about 5 minutes for the vest to fully deflate and by itself in the non deployed state the vest is rated as a CE1 back protector.

Contacted A*s and explained what happened. Also read online of other false deployments. They acknowledged that they needed to update the firmware and asked that I send it in.

I was waived the $180 repacking fee but now I only have 2 more deployments on this vest before it has to be retired.

With regards to air flow, it doesn't flow much but I've had it on with the Yuagara jacket in 90+ days and as long as you are moving it is not that bad.

The Yuagara jacket has A*'s Drystar tech for waterproofing vs the Revenant which is Gore-tex. The Yaugara's collar is a bit high and can bite into your neck, but that is subjective based on each individual.

If you want to see if any of your existing jackets have space for the airbag to deploy, you can maybe go to SF Moto, ask nicely, and try on their demo vest and have them inflate it with their compressor.

The A*'s Tech 5 vest's charge lasts quite awhile when not in use. Just remember to make it a habit charge the night before. You can do some basic changes using the Tech Air app like change from Street mode to Track as well as update the firmware.

One con, and this is a nitpick, is that it does not have the plugs to interface with the Tech Air compatible jackets that shows the LED status on the sleeves.

I'm trying to get all my other riding buddies to get a vest as well, but everyone has already invested in their existing gear and don't want to drop another $1000-$1500 on a new vest/jacket combo.

At one point the Street dropped to $349 on Revzilla/Cycle Gear and I'm kicking myself for not grabbing one.

Good luck on getting your vest Bud.

@Budman
I have a Badlands jacket and that thing feels like it weighs 10lbs! I rarely wear it, mostly because it's got so much bulk.
If you are going to pair it with an air bag vest, you'll be packing some serious extra pounds, or at least it will feel that way.

My Badlands came with back and chest armor, so there is that, too. I suppose you could shed one or the other under an air bad vest, but, you know how it is in the Summer. It gets hot under a lotta gear.

I have a friend who has a Helite that he wears over a Roadcrafter. He recently moved to Santa Fe, where it's hella hot. He packs his 'stich with ice and says it's not too bad. I always thought he looked like a prisoner of his gear, or Michelin Man!

Cool... I should go just to ask what up with your supply chain!

I've had the Klim vest for almost two years now and it's been great. I love that I can wear it under multiple different jackets and that it's relatively cool in the heat.

People get hung up on the subscription, but it's more of a payment plan that gives you warranty coverage and updates while you're paying for it.

My only gripe is that the mechanism is that holds the battery in is kind of a pain and there's no way to charge it without removing the battery. Not the end of the world and you get used to it though. The battery does last a good long time at least.
